  • That "final version" idea

So it's been mentioned in various threads that it would be nice to get a final update that never reverts to demo mode on failed authentication.

Attentive readers may recall this has been mentioned by cakewalk staff before, in speculative discussions about the authentication. I can't remember exactly who, but I think Noel has mentioned it once or twice. The idea that if Cakewalk were to go bust, they would release such an update.

Now, the problem, putting it bluntly, is that while I think most users here trust Cakewalk Boston's good intentions, Gibson are not held in the same regard, with good reason. And obviously, Cakewalk's hands are tied by Gibson right now. Add to that that there's every possibility of Gibson itself going out of business without warning.

Really hoping we hear more about this transition team thing ASAP.

I agree with you. We should all get our current version of Sonar with a code that will allow us to re-authorize the product, just like the old days.

Obviously, it's a concern for all users. But for me, I make my living doing this, and use Sonar extensively every day. I just can't afford a surprise de-authorisation. So if we don't hear something really soon, I'm going to have to start transitioning to another DAW just to be on the safe side. Which I don't really want to do. Or need to, apart from this one issue.

The idea of trusting in Gibson to keep the servers up just isn't a flier for me. I don't trust Gibson to tie their own shoes in a morning.
