Picked up a Samson G track that came with X1 le software for my kids to record with.  This is my first attempt at recording of any kind, as there have always been at least one tech mastermind in any band I've ever played with, so I never fooled with it before.  Please excuse my ignorance, but I have a handful of ridiculous questions that I hope someone would help me with.
1. I have some latency in my phones, and wondered if there was a way for me to adjust this, or if it was due to my computer
2. How do I turn the metronome on and off and and how do I adjust the tempo
3. How do make adjustments for clipping issues

Welcome to the forum.
Since the G Track is an audio interface as well as a mic, you need to go into X1's Properties and make sure that the mic is set as both Recording Device and Playback Device. Connect your speakers/headphones to the mic.
What driver mode are you using (also in Properties)? If MME, change it to WDM. You can also adjust the latency, buffers, etc. under Properties.
You may also want to see if the G Track has ASIO drivers available. I didn't see any mention of ASIO on the Samson web site, though.
If true ASIO drivers are not available, you can google ASIO4All, download and install it. That makes the WDM driver act more like ASIO and has allowed many users to reduce latency to acceptable levels.

THank you so much for giving me some direction with these issues.  I am hoping to have this gear ready for my daughter to record with on Christmas, as she has been asking for a means of recording her songs for a while.  She spends days in our studio room composing lyrics, keys, and drums, but will be fired up she can finally lay them down.  I enjoyed listening to your songs on soundclick.  All the instrumentals were great.  Girl of My Dreams is a good tune with a nice hook as well.  Do you play all the instruments on those tracks?  THanks again for the advice.  If I can fix the latency issue and figure out how to work the metronome I believe she will be in good enough shape to at least lay some tracks down.

It looks like the G Track offers direct monitoring, and allows you to select some monitoring variations.
However, your monitors/headphones must be connected to the G Track output, not the computer, as Greg mentioned.

How committed are you to using the G Track? Is returning it, and setting her up a different way still an option?
Many of us do not recommend USB microphones due to what you are experiencing.

I played all the instruments except the drums, which I programmed in. I wrote that song way back in 1979 and finally recorded it a few years ago.
There should be a metronome toolbar somewhere at the top. You can change the tempo or turn the met on or off, or set it to only be on while recording, or only on playback.
Clipping can't be fixed after it's recorded. The input level should be set to a level thet doesn't clip before recording so one too-loud part doesn't ruin an entire track. But, you can use punch-in recording to redo any bad parts.

Thanks guys.  I will download those drivers tonight and see if I can adjust the latency issue.  Bob, thanks for the thread.  Tons of good information there.  By the way, I like how your soundclick tracks seem to go from genre to genre as you open the tracks.  Riverdale Road actually reminds me of some cool old live Doors bootlegs.  Catfish is an excellent track and is probably my favorite.  As far as getting rid of the G track, I actually bought it because it seemed simpler to use than some of the other things out there.  I guess that remains to be seen.  I am going to try to get a decent setup going initially, and if that doesnt work maybe I will go another direction.
