I always have to open a second file, play it, then close it, to hear audio from the first file. What gives?

thats the way it is...even when u click on record and try and demo tts 1 piano whilst the metronome counts in before the marker moves...hey guess what u cant audition before playing its silent night.

What is your setup as far as computer, interface, ... ?

The MAudio drivers can cause this with one of their drivers.

Have you tried opening the properties window (i.e. hit 'P'), then dismissing the window with "OK"? I have to do that every time I start X2 before I get any sound.

Hang on - I do not at all have this issue with X2, which would lead me to think some settings need reviewing and adjusting.

Can you please detail your software and hardware specs and settings?

If you were to open a new project, using the Normal template, and insert an audio track of any MP3 file and hit play, what happens?

I'm with Bob on this, not seeing this problem here.
 
Can you give some more detail, as this should be fixable, and not a Sonar problem.

I was just about to post the same as Bob & jb101. I've seen several of your posts this morning on various problems you're having.

Have you tried an uninstall / reinstall. I think you must be having some sort of system or driver issues. It might be worth trying a different version of your interface driver as well. The latest aren't always the greatest as I know from my own experience.

Dev might be MIA for a bit.
