Ampegs are awesome!!! The first amp I ever bought was an Ampeg Reverberocket II. I still have it and my trusty old V-4 sans the (2) 4 x 12 cabinets that were stolen years ago.

Thanks for that additional info, Mike! The amp I actually tried this with my very old V4B and I didn't have a speaker or power soak connected. Luckily, I only tried it for a couple of minutes before deciding to go direct into the U5. There was a little bit of hum coming through the V4B. Maybe because there was no power soak?

I am using a SansAmp Tech 21 then into my FF800. I used it for my Precision and got some good results. I no longer have my Precision [it was stolen :(], and am using the same set up for my Breedlove acoustic bass. It sounds good on the Breedlove too. Tom

I have an old Carvin 1X15 bass amp in my studio, can't remember the model but it sounds great....
I plug my bass into a Radial direct box, one output feeds the amp which I mic with an old SM57, the other output goes direct into my Focusrite interface. After recording I adjust the tracks for phase and put Guitar Rig 5 on the direct track and run both tracks into an Aux buss for EQ and compression as needed. Last in the chain is the Concrete Limiter. Sounds good to me and all my bass playing buddies seem to like it....

Depending on the song, I either us a SansAmp Bass Driver sometimes I mic a GK amp through a Neve 1073LB via a MD421 or D6. It really depends on the material.
