^^^^swamptooth's explanation is worth heeding^^^^

I'm assuming after reading the thread in context that the problem is something other than what I was thinking, please disregard my previous post if not applicable.

Hopefully you will get this solved.

Have you had a look at my Matrix video which is on youtube? You may find that useful. That's HERE.

It is perfectly possible to trigger a cell instantly as you play back either a performance already recorded, a project or just using the matrix as is. Or at least I can....... There are so many possible setting combinations it is hard to know where to start but the following works for me.........

I was going to list all the settings but a pictures worth a thousand words so here are the settings for instant clip playback

Note that the clip trigger is on Immediate overriding the global setting. The cell loop mode is in "one shot mode" but is irrelevant to when the cell plays back only how it behaves once started.

Hi,

I just want to try and sum up the "possible solution" after everyone added (very) useful information.

- Put your intro into an EMPTY track JUST for that purpose: your matrix rows are always linked to a track, so when you add new sounds in a new row, please ensure that this row is linked to a new track. If needed add manually a new audio track, and link this row to it (with the dropdown under the name of the row) In FastBikerBoy example picture it's linked to an audio track calledMatrix row 1, which I believe is the automatic behaviour. You need to change that to YOUR audio track.
=> One audio track ONLY for your intro + One audio track for EACH Matrix rows

- If your cell has the Immediate setting it will trigger as soon as you click it

Hope it helps

sorry it was in an earlier reply. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlytbD4hT0M
really appreciate it.  fwiw this is not the results i get when doing the same thing in x1 and the problem appears to be more pronounced on dimpro and rapture.

Hi there. Just tried something similar. I get the repeating first note if not in direct mode but not consistently, sometimes it does sometimes it doesn't.

I don't get the triggering every measure but I can't seem to get out of "Play from now" mode, so the trigger happens when I want it to, it records at the correct point but it triggers wherever it happens to be in the pattern at the time.

I suspect you might be seeing the same thing but it's more obvious to me because I am using a pattern rather than just a couple of notes.

I haven't really got a lot of time to have a play around at the moment and probably won't have until tomorrow at the earliest. I'll do a bit more investigating then.

i appreciate the time karl.  yeah, same thing happens with patterns as well. did in x1 also.  just a little bummed that i need to go into direct mode because i like using arpeggiator patterns that i can trigger and adjust on the fly when doing midi sequences.  that's a part of the FUN!

Thanks everyone for your replies and ideas. Just to clarify, I'm using X2. Let me explain how I'm trying to use this. I run a live theater and use Sonar X2 to automate our shows. It has worked great for years. I use to be able to use the matrix with earlier versions. But something has changed in X2. I use to use the matrix to be able to layer a sound effect on top of a background track on the fly. So lets say I had a scene going on with background music playing and needed to have a recording of a phone ring play on top of the background music as soon as the actor said a certain line . . . While the background music was playing all the technician would have to do is click on the appropriate matrix cell to trigger the sound. I gave up yesterday. Ran out of time. I'm now using an Ipad to trigger those additional sounds for a performance that happens for the next few days. I'm still hopeful that the matrix could once again be useful for me. It used to work.

hey cody, yeah i do the same kinda stuff too - x1 worked fine. x2 short circuited somewhere.  i don't know if it was an install problem or not... i don't have as many problems with the audio files as i do with midi files, but just enough.
