Full-Sail university I think, in Florida?

There's an online course you can take towards getting a certificate in Cakewalk through Cal-Berkley online school of music-not sure that it's the same as THE Cal-B out in California, but it's like $1,200 for a course. It looked pretty good. Haven't tried it out. Would like to be competent in Sonar X1 or X2. And really know it. You don't have to go that route of course. You can read books, manuals-ask questions on forums, but most people don't know 1/3 of the program really. Okay-it's worse than that. In regards to any new technology out there-most people only learn the basics. Well, with advanced software programs-there's a lot to learn. The more you know-the better you'll do as an engineer, etc..

The other one is on campus(in Florida) and very, very expensive. Looks like a pretty cool program, but again-big bucks. They have some online vids on youtube that are informative. Different studies also-not just music, but film, video games, etc..

I'd like to try it out. 

Save your money. Buy all the videos, view them on YouTube, and then read Sonar X2 powered book back to back.Then record your own album. Finally print out your own certificate.

I have taken (8?) Online classes at Berklee and loved them all!  (Never the Sonar course)  I am sure the class is full of goodness and would quickly make you an advanced user of Sonar. 

However, with that said, all of that information is easily gathered on CakeTv/YouTube and the various tutorials out there.  So unless you are very rich, I would have to agree with Alex

Actually Berklee is a very famous and prestigous music school, I belive in Boston.  I think Steve Vai is an alumni if my memory serves me right. 
 
Had one of their catalogs when I was a senior in high school, but I didn't really follow through with trying to go there.  Wish I had gone for it back then.  I heard it through the grapevine that an old friend who was a killer sax player at my high school went there and ended up having a decent career as an engineer somewhere down here in Southern Cal.
 
As much good as I've heard about the school over the years, I really don't know much about their online programs.  I'm not sure online music classes would translate as well as actual classroom experience does.  I'd kind of lean toward Alex's advice myself.

IIRC it is a play off the founders son's name. Not 100% sure but I believe his last name was Burke (or Berk) and his son's name was Lee.
 
Back in the late 70's it was kind of the school to go to. Lot's of famous alum's...particularly in the jazz area. These days I'm not convinced they are worth the cost. I think Alex has got it just about right.

They are spelled differently.
 
University of California at Berkley (berkley.edu).
 
Berklee School of Music (berklee.edu) has been around for a long time and is very well established.  Berkleemusic.com is their online presence.
 
There's no harm in taking courses as long as you can afford the time and money.  A degree, any degree, will help you in most situations (not just music).  One thing that going to school does is hold you accountable for projects and teaches you to discipline yourself.  Of course, you can do that on your own as well, but it does take serious effort.

I am taking an improv class taught by Gary Burton (world-class vibes), later this Spring.

The videos and books available for Sonar replace the need for the Berklee classes for Sonar.  I have reviewed the courses and that is my recommendation.
