  • TH2 - Should there be presets? (p.2)

It´s a bit "strange". Got the Sonar X2 Producer and with TH2 Producer just another guitar amp simulation with a "few" simple presets...

...even for an "walkthrough" to get an overview about sounding and abilities it´s simply nothing more than a SHAME...!!!

Mine has presets, in the top bar there's a .001 factory/.001 user. If you put it on factory, there's a bunch of presets in there, I think 4 banks, with 4 or 5 presets each.

There are very few presets with TH2 producer - it doesn't show the program off very well.

I have not upgraded yet.  I first started out using Amplitube in Sonar 6, then Guitar Rig.  Now have Guitar Rig 5 and Amplitube 3.  I like them both, so don't really feel the need to upgrade TH2.  I'd be quite happy with just Guitar Rig, although I do love the Rectifier clean and driven amps in Amplitube3 - incredibly realistic to my ears.

My favorite go-to for a crunchy guitar tone with a lot of weight is Amplitube, but I just cannot get enough of the wild and wacky effects in Guitar Rig. I use huge chains of them all the time, mainly on synth sounds. Some of the beat slicing and mashing effects are great too. I would love to upgrade to the full TH2 because from what I've heard of it, the tones beat both Amplitube and GR, but I just can't shell out the $99 right now. I really wish it was cheaper. Hopefully Cakewalk will lose all sense of reality and offer it for $50 some time in the future.

I particularly love the psychedelay in GP5.

I wouldn't worry too much about the upgrade to  full TH2.  Do  you have the full version of Amplitube3, or the free version?

I have the free version, but have bought a few extra amps.  The rectifier (mesa boogie) ones are sensational.  With those, and GR5, you have plenty.

It's not in the Producer version but I like the Rumble Bee preset. It makes my beeples bapple. ;-)

The Amplitude & GR rig versions that came with Sonar never sold me on amp modelling. I got a VG-99 to use as a guitar synth when it first came out and was slowly won over to modelling since it did a pretty good job. With a home studio it's nice not having to worry about extraneous sounds. For rhythm parts modelling is fine with me, but given a choice I still have a preference for a real amp for leads - although that gap is closing and I have used the VG-99 for some lead parts. GR didn't sound as good as the VG-99 to my ear.

I think the TH2 amp models surpass the VG-99. They seem to respond to dynamics better and the cabinet models seem better. Needless to say I went for the upgrade. I've only been playing with it for a week or so and haven't spent much time with effects. My first impression is that the fuzz/OD/distortion in TH2 aren't as good as the VG-99. Anyway, the TH2 demo sold me ...

You could try mixing and matching. Once I'm set up in my new space I'm gonna be experimenting with a combo of my Line 6 head, TH2 (I too got the upgrade), GR5 and micing my amp. I think I'm gonna be able to come up with a lot of wild sounds. Fun!

I also have a bunch of old pedals too that'll get tossed in here and there. My Keeley modded MT-2 is awesome for recording.

Yeah, I plan on mixing and matching. The VG-99 has guitar modelling as well as poly effects, alternate tuning, string bending, etc, luckily it has plenty of I/O! Straight guitar out goes to an amp as well as an analog in on an AudioFire 4 (to TH2), digital out goes into digital in on the AudioFire (VG-99 guitar modelling + effects to TH2), and subOuts go into a mixer which also goes into the AudioFire, so there are plenty of options ...
