all i want to do is have a list of songs on the computer.
then when i want to play them i just select the song and send the yamaha keyboard the settings.
i tried the crashaholick sonarX! - did not come close to working.
if i could post pics on this forum i would show you the settings.
thanks fellow sufferers!

it is on a win7/64 that has even been put back to factory specs to try and make the sonar X! work.

Would windows media player be better for your purposes than crashaholic sonar?

What do you mean? Are you talking about MIDI files or are you trying to make just regular audio files trigger your keyboard?

Also, if you are having chronic crashes it is likely due to your system and it's settings. Sonar X2 is still buggy but under the right conditions it works. What are your system specs/OS, what audio interface are you using and what do you have the audio buffers set to? The lower the latency settings the more likely you are to have crashes.

Also factory default settings are not great for doing audio work. If you want the correct system settings follow the Cakewalk optimization guide on this site.

SONAR has a Play List feature that might do what you need. In SONAR, choose File > New. Then choose Play List Set from the dialog.

You can add Cakewalk project files, MIDI files, and even Karaoke files to the list.

Check out the SONAR help for more info.

sysx is what i have to use to set the yamaha keyboard settings from the computer.
remember i am only storing the midi file that remembers the keyboard settings for each tune.
how would i get the settings into Play List Set?
and i have sonar X1 and if there is a free update to X2 - i use it on a non internet computer - so updates would have to be transportable on a USB.
thanks all

You can load those MIDI files into the Play List.

"incomplete sysx message, discarding received data" even tho it got 255 data
this is the main error message in sysx
then EVERY time it crashes- a bit buggy? HAH! a lot worse than that - completely unstable is more like it.
which is why this post is called software reccommendation. i need one that works.

It's only "completely unstable" for those people who haven't set their pc up properly, are running a sub-standard soundcard or haven't bothered to set Sonar up properly
