And I have no problems running 32 bit plugs inside my 64 bit setup (apart from a corrupt install of Pentagon which has now been fixed)

You forgot to read the "if"
Sure. Whatever you say chief. :)

Like I said, go 'head alto1. Have at 'er. Come back and let us know how you made out with all those old 32bit plug ins in Sonar x64.

In my experience, especially with reverb's (one that comes to mind is that free one called Ambiance Reverb), the 32bit one's, especially the free ones like Ambiance, randomly crash with no warning, in a non-repeatable pattern. I've encountered this a lot as I'm a cheap bastard and try out all the free VST's I can. Most of them, especially the older ones, are not stable in a 64bit environment running through Bitbridge or even Jbridge. (Jbridge is the same as Bitbridge, only they charge you for it). They work fine in Sonar 32, but really give you headaches in Sonar 64 ... or any 64bit DAW. I'm not singling out Sonar.

But, like I said ... have at 'er. Don't listen to me. ;)

Thanks for all the info I think I get this 32 bit 64 bit issue. Two new issues to conquer, which I guess is for another post.

Also check the sources of your plugins and see if they provide a 64bit versions.

Update: I decided that I really ought to install X2 64bit last weekend.  So far it has been flawless, working with both 32 and 64 bit plugs.  Since I did a completely clean install, I have massively limited the number of vst plugs (especially all those freebies) which I can't help feeling are the source of a lot of issues. I still have 32 in the wings, but looking to stay put on 64 if I can.

I would say 'touch wood', but that gives me a slightly creepy feeling...

I know what you mean................

Good on ya Wood - I'm trying to not even install anything 32 bit now, so far so good

I'm taking the plunge with a new computer 64 bit OS WIN 7. I have many old 32 bit plugins that I still want to use. Thus I know I can run Sonar X1 in 32 bit or 64 bit. My main question is where do those dll's go. Do I have to put them in two locations since sometimes I may have to use the 32 bit version. Any and all explanations on this would be great. This is all new and confusing, I feel like I'm coming from the old country.

Sometimes many think their old plugins only support x32. When they later on check the manufacturer they get really surprised that the x32bit old plugin they used already are available in a new x64bit version. Even though "IF" your plugin are only available in x32bit you can install and use it in SONAR X64. Don't worry!

Today 99.9% of all big manufacturies support native x64 and have all their plugins in x64.
