I am a big fan of Groove3 for learning how to use specific plugins. Recently I discovered Puremix.net which provides videos focused on teaching you to mix, regardless of what brand of plugins you are using. I can't say enough good things about this site - Fab has a gift for explaining things in a way where it just makes sense. I have learned SO MUCH from this site in such a short period of time.

I posted this in the software forum because these videos have helped me get MORE VALUE from the plugins I've already purchased. :)

Checked out two of the free vids.

Ben and Fab are good speakers and kept me interested.

The free videos are a nice taste. The paid videos are certainly more in depth - as you would expect. Ben has a great one on mixing real drums with electronic drums (amongst others), and I just watched a video of Fab on reverb that FINALLY explained to me in a way that made sense how you use multiple reverbs in a single mix. He did one on using delays on vocals that also gave me a lot of "aha!" moments.

Great stuff!

PS: I'm looking forward to watching the one where Andrew Sheps mixes an entire Ziggy Marley tune "in the box". He also has one where he mixes it entire "out of the box" so you can watch both and compare/contrast the approach.

I agree...I like them both...Fab and Ben...

Fab's accent gets me sometimes...but I still like
his presentation...

The price per month is pretty high.  Do you just buy single videos or do you subscribe?

I subscribed on a special offer. It was still expensive compared to other offerings but it was money well spent. I'm trying to get through everything during my 3 month subscription. :)

James and I went for the same deal.  Fab is a delight, and the others range from really good to OK.  I just watched Mick Guzauski explain how he mixed Pharrell's "Gust of Wind," which was very interesting -- not many A-list mixers do vids like this.

Certainly enough content on the site to keep oneself busy for a few months.  Not just videos, but lots of articles, old mix contest multi-tracks, etc.  Fun stuff.

Cheers,
Eddie

A secret deal not available to garden variety forum members?

I'm not sure where I ran across the deal... I paid $63 for 3 months and it looks like that is currently $90.

I got e-mails about it.  I'd been registered on the site for a while.

There are some things that bug me about PureMix, though.  The vids aren't in full HD, on my system at least, and the player is a little buggy -- pausing or rewinding tends to crash it.  They recently redid the whole site, and naturally there are a few issues.  Oh, and it no longer works on my old iPad, either, which is kind of a bummer.  Anyhoo, lots of good content that is well worth checking out.

Cheers,
Eddie
