Hello All-

I just downloaded and started the install for NI Kontakt 5 Player version 5.5.2. A couple clicks into the install dialog it shows a dropdown that offers the "Basic Installation" (which is the default standalone), and right under it selections for "VST Plugin" and then "AAX Plugin. The "VST Plugin" and "AAX Plugin" selections can be further expanded to allow a specific type of install. Here is the entire  expanded dropdown:

Basic Installation (no sub-selections)
VST Plugin:
 > Will be installed on local hard drive
  >Entire feature will be installed on local hard drive
  >X Entire feature will be unavailable
AAX Plugin:
 > Will be installed on local hard drive
  >Entire feature will be installed on local hard drive
  >X Entire feature will be unavailable

I'm not sure what way to go here. Because I am probably only going to use this as a Sonar plugin,  I'm thinking VST>Entire feature, but thought I would get some input from the forum.

Suggestions welcome!

Since you're on Sonar/Windows, you want the VST Plugin (AAX is for Pro Tools).

Thanks for the quick reply, Mesh. What do you think....Do I just select the un-expanded "VST Plugin" from the dropdown, or should I expand and select either:
"Will be installed on local hard drive"
      -OR-
"Entire feature will be installed on local hard drive"
???
Thanks-

I'm not sure what that Expanded vs. un-Expanded versions are.....I have the full version. Hopefully someone will chime in shortly (sorry....)

What you can do is just install the Expanded and see what it entails.....you can always uninstall.

I should have been more precise: I can click on "VST Plugin" and continue with the install, or I can click on a little arrow or plus sign (can't remember which now) next to "VST Plugin", which gives the three sub-selections (what I call expanded) under "VST Plugin".

I just saw a video online that was not real helpful, but in it he just clicked "VST Plugin" and proceeded without expanding the selection.

Just took a leap of faith and installed the VST version. Looks okay, but I need to test. I have three .dll files to select from in my Vstplugins folder: Kontakt 5 8out.dll, Kontakt 5 16out.dll and Kontakt 5.dll. I need to investigate how they differ from each other.

The VST version is the correct one.

The different .dll's are there for depending on how many outs you need (the larger ones are for DAW's which don't support a lot of outputs). I believe the regular Kontakt 5 .dll offers up to 64 and that's also the one I always use.

You're going to like Kontakt (once you get your head wrapped around its interface).......there are some excellent libraries for it. Also check out the free tutorials on youtube.......there's a lot it can do. Enjoy!!

After all my hand-wringing, it looks to me like it didn't matter which install option I selected...I think everything that could be installed WAS installed. even though I selected "VST Plugin"...Stand alone, VST and even AAX. Oh well.

If you didn't want the AAX plugin, you have to select that red X (Entire feature will be unavailable)......similar to what's below.
