How in the hell can this be? I can't get through recording longer than maybe 5 or 6 takes when drop outs and usually followed by the white screen of doom and no matter how long I wait hoping that it will respond, it doesn't and CRASH. I know it must be my system...but my buffer settings are actually higher than I should be using, I defrag once o twice a week and all the other suggested habits have been incorporated into my work flow but X2 keeps doing this. ....Any thoughts?

Well to start with, an idea of what you're running might help.

Please list your FULL system spec, including interface

the biggest portion of dropouts are caused by the soundcard and its drivers, not the CPU and RAM.

as Jonsey asks:  what are you full systems specs including your interface?

also, which driver mode are you using and what are your latency settings?

those will be the biggest factors in dropouts

soundcard drivers will be the biggest factor in crashes

also:  when the "white screen of death" appears - it should give you some information about a specific driver or piece of hardware which is causing the conflict.  what is that?

What is your buffer setting? Have you tried changing it?

pls also list your graphic card

and try running this tool (http://www.resplendence.com/latencymon) while you record and list what shows up on top of the list in the drivers section when sorted by 5th column in descending order (highest execution time) ... make sure you keep it running until you get the first drop out again ... then post what you see ...

in preferences/audio/config file try changing the last option dropoutmsec to 750 or so.

Whats the point in posting this without a full system spec in your sig?

keep the file write and tenderbit depth in mind too. your interface could be sixteen bit while you write thirty twobit files. see preferrea file.
