  • Issues installing X2 Prod over X1 Expn?

Hey y'all. I have X1 Expanded already installed and I'm thinking about installing X2 Prod. Would I uninstall X1 Expn first or just go ahead and install X2 Prod? If I did the latter, what would happen? Would the install create a new folder for X2 while leaving everything else in the Cakewalk folder alone or what? What would happen to my Z3TA +2 in EITHER scenario?  I currently have Dimension Pro 1.2.0.214 and RaptureLE 1.22 installed.  Does the X2 Prod install overwrite them or what? What versions of Dimension Pro and Rapture come with X2 Prod? I know it's discontinued, but will Beatscape work in X2 Prod if I have the files and they're in the right place? Thanks for your valued opinions and assistance.

I've not had any problems here, they're in two separate folders.  Don't bother uninstalling X1.

Beatscape is not included in X2, but the content is.  Beatscape still shows up in my X2 as X2 still scans its folder location.

You can choose whether to install Dim Pro.

Everything here works fine.  All my preferences were migrated from X1 to X2.  I hope you love it as much as I've been doing.

Thanks for the quick response, jb101! Did the X2 install replace your Rapture LE folder with a "complete edition" Rapture folder or does it still say LE? I'm also interested in whether the info in the "Shared DXi", "Shared Plugins", "Shared Utilities", and "Vstplugins" folders from your X1 Expn install was replaced with UPDATED X2 files or what? Thanks again.

When you install Sonar X2 it will install in it's own folder. However, many folders are shared folders and the installation will update those files.

There is *never* a reason to uninstall a previous version of Sonar. There is nothing to gain by doing so.  You only recover a few megs of HD space.

Rapture will install in it's own folder so you will have 2 versions installed. You will have the LE version and the Full version.

Dimension Pro is where it get's ticklish.

Dimension Pro 1.5 does not support DXi and will uninstall the DXi version.
This means if you have any projects that use Dim Pro you will have to reinsert Dim Pro and reselect your patches.

Always back up before upgrading.

The "Shared DXi", "Shared Plugins", "Shared Utilities", and "Vstplugins" folders will all be updated by X2.

Skip the DimPro install, it is the same version that came with X1.

The loops that came with Beatscape are duplicated in the "Loop and One-Shots" installers. You can safely delete the old "Beatscape Factory Content" directory and replace it with a junction to the "Cakwalk Content/Audio Library/Loops" if you wish to get back 4GB of disk space.

scook, he said he's running version 1.22 of DP - the current version is 1.5, so he'll probably want to update his installation

Good catch on the version. Rather that go throug the install process, I would run the 1.5 patch from the support page. There is nothing to be gained by disturbing the DimPro patches and samples. No new patches in the base version between 1.2 and 1.5. There will be some duplication of samples because of the move to flac from wav.

One more ting about updating to DimPro 1.5. That may be an issue if there is a need to go back to old projects using the DimPro DXi. DXi support was dropped in 1.5.

Yes - this has bitten me on several projects.

Luckily, I always make a note of which patches I was using in a song.
