anyway , Avid likes taking UK jobs and putting them abroad (Ukraine from what I've read) , so because of that, I won't be giving them any of my money

Another link.... great. That's all people have been giving me. Still completely confused. I've read and read..... there's something I'm not understanding. I'm just going to give up for now and take a break from it.

Rewrite doesn't send the midi notes, only audio (at least that I'm aware of). So you have to use the virtual instruments in Sibelius and send the audio to sonar.

So when you have rewired Sibelius to Sonar, rewire audio outputs from Sibelius should be available to use in Sonars audio track inputs.

This is why rewire is not a good replacement for decent notation tools inside of Sonar.

I'm no Rewire wizard but my understanding is that Rewire can send MIDI from the host  (a.k.a. Master) to the slave. I think the issue is that SONAR is not designed to be a slave; it supports Rewire only as a host. So Sibelius would not be able to have access to VSTis hosted in SONAR. Whatever you compose in Sebelius would have to be driving instruments hosted in Sibelius.

Ok. That's what I figured. I'm going to get a refund on Sibelius 7, then. I have Sibelius 5 and the only reason I upgraded was for Rewire capability because I thought you could do this. I wish Cakewalk would change this. Their notation SUCKS. I actually read music and compose my parts with actual notation..... I don't want to use their crappy notation.... I want to use a real notation program. Everything else in Sonar is fantastic.... but, allow us to use REAL notation programs if you're not going to do it yourselves.

Just called Sibelius.... they said it won't work. The guy said that I have to notate in Sibelius, then export the MIDI into Sonar and assign my instruments. So, let me alter my original question: what's the best way to do that?

I can understand the frustration. Personally, I can't read or write notation to save my life, so it doesn't much matter to me. Fortunately, it seems to be a lot easier to get a good visual result converting MIDI to notation and tweaking it than to get a good audio result the other way around.

I presume Sibelius can export a Type 1 MIDI File. This will give you one track per staff in SONAR, and will bring tempos with it if you open the MIDI file directly, as opposed to importing it into an existing project. Then you'll need to insert soft synths with output tracks, set up patches/instruments and assign the MIDI tracks to them.

I'm sure there are ways to streamline this process for "mass production", and maybe one of the orchestral composers around here will chime in at some point to help. In the mean time, I suggest you try Googling Sibelius, Notation, Template, Score, Import and related keywords against site:forum.cakewalk.com to find existing threads on the subject. Much will depend on what synths you intend to use.
