Hi I am using Sonarx1 Producer 32bit. First Question: I have a project with an Intro set at tempo 50bpm. I like the intro and would like to keep it as well as the tempo it is at. I setup a new audio track for yet another guitar with its own buss. I would like this Electric Guitar Track to be at 140BPM. but every time I change the tempo Sonar X1 also applies this change to the Intro (50bpm) that I said I wanted to keep. my question is.. How do I keep the intro guitars tempo and apply a new tempo to a new track and at the same time keep the intro's tempo stability. Second Question: "example" ( I start SonarX1., it loads, it opens, I am prompted to either open a Project,Open a Recent Project,Create a New Project,Online video's and more (USELESS),and Getting started. I select "open a new project" there I have many options including.Play list set,16 track audio, 24 track audio,Accessibility,Acid Techno,Electronic,Matrix,Normal,Rock,Surround -5.1 - 7.1, Surround Quad)..I select normal. I then delete Audio track, midi track, master and metronome. I then insert up to 5 Audio tracks and 5 Busses = 1 Buss for each Audio Track...(based on video tutorials by MCIhomestudio's advise) is this correct? I selected Rock but I don't understand if that's what I really should be using. I am a Guitar player. I do not use keyboards such as Synthesizers or Piano's. Only Guitar. I would like to use Session Drummer but I as a Guitar player am unsure of the proper way to set up projects for Guitar use only _no Vocals Just guitar and session Drummer. I use a Digitech RP1000 for all my sounds. I am having a hard time because Youtube is a wealth of Information but it Seriously Lacks Anyone that Plays Guitar Only and Shows Tutorials on Sonar - How to guitar..not one person does Sonar and guitar working together tutorial videos. everyone uses Keyboards. and that drives me nuts.

You need to move the now time to where you want the tempo change to happen and then insert the tempo change there. Make sure that you select the "Insert new tempo" option in the insert tempo dialogue or it will change the original.

The choices you see are "Templates" that are pre-configured. You can create your own and save them. If you just want to record guitar, all you need to do is insert an audio track and select the input for that track to whichever input your guitar is coming in on. That might be direct so you can use one of the guitar amp sims or a DI from an amp or Mic'd cab. Have a look at the recording audio tutorials in the help file. REcording audio is pretty much the same whether it's a guitar, vocals, or drum mics. Select input, set levels and record.

You need to think about why you're routing every guitar track to it's own buss.

Whilst you can do this, it's not really the point of busses, so what are the reasons behind this?

I'm not saying it's wrong, just unusual

I am under the current thought that Sonar does not support per-track tempos OR meters.

I am quite certain about it not supporting multiple meters, because I have had that verbal discussion with Cakewalk, and while not certain, believe that also applies to tempo.

Hi FBB - if I read the oringal post correctly, the OP is attempting to have one track play at one tempo, and have a separate track at the same time playing at a different tempo.  Per my posted reasons above, I do not think Sonar supports that functionality.

Not per track def not.

I missed the buss question. I agree with bristol_jonesey. Busses are more typically used to treat tracks together as groups so with guitars you might have 4 or 5 guitar tracks that all go to one buss called guitars where you could add reverb and delays for example.

Per track tempo - who are you? Zappa?

Seriously - unless you're extremely accomplished this can only result in cacophony.

It's great to experiment, but would the result be musical?

C'mon now, you are a prog musician.  I have keyboard practice drills I learned ages ago from a then keyboard player and now producer Pat Leonard, where each hand is playing patterns that are in 2 different meters.  He said it was a Keith Emerson thing, and partly for some of the amazing ability Emerson had to play crazy hard right handed solos at the same time he was playing key-bass with Lake playing Guitar.  VERY difficult, but great for doing that sort of thing.

I had asked the Cakewalk tech support about Sonar supporting track-dependent meter, and they said nope.  I was going to create a midi version of a really good progressive tune from Gentle Giant called Just the Same, which has the rythm section in one meter and the vocals in another - bass/dums in 6 and vocals/keys/guitar in 7, and the chorus occurs at measure 42, which is when both meters conjoin.

Apologies - there are additional sub-meters happening within the Gentle Giant tune, above and beyond the others.

In my humble opinion, Emerson was at his peak at around the time of Trilogy - some, well most of his work on that album was sublime

My favourites are the Fugue, and the title track

Your comments about the Gentle giant song reminds me of reading about Zappa commenting on the time signature of Keep It Greasy from Joe's Garage - I mean it's all over the place!! He reckoned the beats all came together about once a month.
