I am sure there is a simple answer to this one.
 
In X2 A vertical white line has appeared in one of my midi tracks. Whenever I paste something it gets inserted on that track, at the location of the white line, regardless of the track in focus or the current now time.
 
What is the name of this feature and how do I switch it off?

You've inadvertently entered "extended edit" mode. Press 0 on the numeric keypad to get out of it (that's how you got in in the first place BTW)
