  • Why have my Pan knobs turned into volume knobs? [SOLVED]

Been working on this project for a few weeks with no problems. All of a sudden - and I have no idea what happened - the pan knobs on all of the tracks have stopped working properly. Instead of panning the tracks left or right, they're increasing in volume when I turn to the left and decreasing to zero when I turn to the right.

Panning on the master bus works as expected.

I have tried toggling the stereo interleave button on each track. The panning knob works the same no matter how it is set.

If I start a new project and load up a synth, the panning works properly.

What in God's name can I have done to this project for it to completely screw up my pan knobs like this?

EDIT: I should point out that when I pan a track hard right, although the audible volume drops to zero, the right half of the meter is showing an output level.

I had a project go haywire like this a few weeks ago.  The only thing I can figure out is my project file got corrupted somehow.

Have you by chance deleted a synth recently in the project?  This is what happened to mine.  It completely screwed up my GUI in the console view...had stuff overlapping other things, etc.

When I deleted the synth track and chose "delete all associated tracks" it did not delete those associated tracks.  But if you clicked on the track...it caused sonar to go crazy....messing up the console.

I finally figured out that I could delete all the associated tracks FIRST...then delete the synth and all was fine.

Just another weird quirk that happened.  Not sure it was even a bug....it was just corrupting my file.

do you have a bus solo'd? and see if the volume or pan are added to any groups.

Nope haven't been deleting synths from the synth tab in the browser, not recently anyway. The only time I've ever done that is if it's a synth that no longer has a track associated with it. Nothing else is screwy, in terms of GUI etc....everything's working normally, except this pan thing.

Nope,  no buses are soloed - nor do I have any groups set up (just checked the group manager).

It's basically as if the master bus is outputting the left side only through both output channels. Both of the master fader lights are moving in unison. If I toggle the interleave button on the master track, there is no difference to the sound. So what appears to be happening is that the master channel is not receiving the right channel any more. If I solo a track and pan it all the way to the right, the right meter on that track is showing an output. But the master track is showing no output.

Do you have a V-Studio?  There is a FLIP switch that reverse the pan knobs and faders which is handy when you are doing a lot of extreme panning.

If I load the project in safe mode and choose not to load any plugs, then insert a new synth track,  the panning is working properly.

Nope, no V-Studio. Just what's in my signature.

I saved it as a new project, opened it, and the same thing.

I'm definitely looking at audio track pan and not MIDI pan.
