Sorry I missed to joke! Fawlty Towers is awesome. I have the entire series, what little there was of it! John Cleese is an amazing individual. Totally unrelated to comedy, his business videos were uniformly excellent.

Copied from the RIP Quicktime thread:

I've been in contact with Idolumic today. After uninstalling QT, TuneSmith throws up a couple of error messages (24U SimpleSound extension can't load; and then a second one prompting for a QT download). Deleting or renaming the extension (SimpleSound.fmx.renamed) in TuneSmith's Extensions folder gets rid of the first error message (that was thrown by the extension), but the second (thrown by TS) remains.

I'll update when I know more.

TuneSmith has been updated. It's still v5.5 on the website, but it let's you disable the audio recording function. You do need to manually delete/rename the SimpleSound.fmx plugin in TS's Extensions folder.

Does that take care of the QT issue (so you can avoid installing QT)?

Yes it does.

The SimpleSound extension required QT. TuneSmith required SimpleSound. Renaming the extension obviously keeps it from loading, so no need for QT. The patch to TS allows it to disable its audio recording features, so it doesn't throw up an error message when SimpleSound can't be found (I didn't even need Rhyme Genie for that one!).

For me, at least, TS loads faster now!

The update steps I would have followed, had I known better (would have gone smoother):

1: Make a backup with your current version of TS, to make sure you catch any changes.

2: Copy your Rhyme Genie serial number to the clipboard and install the update.

3: Run TuneSmith and reauthorize with RG's serial number.

4: Accept TS's offer to delete the sample data and load your backup.

5: Restart TS and verify that your backup loaded correctly.

NOTE: I don't know if it was me, from earlier, or if there's a slight bug in TS, but I had a single blank entry in the first position in Creative Talent, Song Catalog and Pitch Journal (the second Pitch Journal entry was also blank, due to the fact that I haven't used it yet). I suspect that when TS deleted the sample data, it only deleted the data and not the database entries. I'm going to report this to Idolumic and see what they say. Not a big deal. You just need to delete them, and you're good to go.

UPDATE: Here's the response I received from Idolumic:

That is actually an entry that is automatically created if none exists. TuneSmith needs at least one record to execute certain scripts. It generally only occurs when you choose to delete the sample data but do not enter a serial number in the next dialog right away. TuneSmith then creates an empty record. You can also verify this by deleting all your entries. A dialog will inform you that a ‘new’ empty record has been created.
