  • Controller Pane: - How to isolate individual controllers, and by 1 channel only?

Here is a screen shot of the bottom left of 1 PRV containing 45 Tracks - most of my string articulations for a song.

How can I filter that list down to one controller and one channel?

------------

Choose New Value Type

------------
See Channels list

Is there no option for "all Channels" to be found anywhere?

------------

ALT+C to hide controller pane at bottom and spew them all over the PRV > Choose "Controllers"

Is there no option for "Deselect all" to be found anywhere?

------------

I need to be able to quickly and effectively isolate controllers by type and channel?
Is it no longer possible?

Using 4.0.2 it is very easy to filter down to 1 specific controller on one channel  in PRV
and see nothing else but the one controller needed.

In X2 How can I filter controller data to see and be able to work with in a reasonable way?

Thank you!

You may want to do it on one track at a time.

I wholeheartedly agree with John.

You will find so much flexibility by not having everything all jammed onto one track, and the controller you want to work with can easily be customized for each instrument, making it a lot cleaner visually.

Split them out into however many Midi tracks you need, then open them one at a time in the PRV, Docking & Locking as you go.

This way, each instrument is only a click away.

First, for more clarity, I haven't purchased it yet. I've got 14 more days to evaluate.

They're not all on one track. These are multiple tracks in one PRV grouped by orchestral section. Brass, WWinds, Strings etc.
and then a full PRV of everything except percussion.
And the reason for that is to watch the harmonic structure of the piece. I enter data by playing (Yamaha S90) and also with the
pencil and other tools. Every instrument is always on it's own midi track whe I work.

Even so, I've tried opening individual / single tracks from a large PRV by selecting that track (on the right) and then ALT+V+P
but it doesn't seem reliable.

In 4.0.2 I live, record, edit, in PRV and rarely see track view.
Usually 7 to 10 PRV windows all pinned (locked) and use CTRL+TAB or ALT+W+number to flip through pages very quickly.
Both of those short cuts are gone now in X2.

I'm not opposed to developing a new work flow, but one track at a time would be like going back to the stone age
especially when I use my full PRV to adjust harmonies across the whole orchestra.
So ... see my next post and maybe some one will have a solution to some of the problems encountered after some adaptation.
Thanks!

OK.
Let me propose an other approach and see if there's a faster method to edit.

1) I can force all of my midi data to one midi channel with no problems.
Process > Find/Change(old interpolate) > bada boom. Is done.
That eliminates quit a bit of the mess at the bottom left.

2) ALT+C = Show / Hide Controller view, but the big sloppy problem with this is that
when the controller view is hidden all of the controllers show overtop of the notes in the PRV.

I'd love to find a way to make that never happen ... including getting rid of the velocities.

Of course I can then go up to the top of the PRV and select: Controllers ... and uncheck them all one at a time,
but as you might know, the next time we hit ALT+C to reopen the CP (controller pane) it's back at the bottom,
eating up needed real estate, and ............
oh wait ... I'll just ALT+C again ...... but ..... sploooosh ... all of the controllers are now re checked
and making a sloppy mess on the PRV over top of the notes.

---------

Aside from the above, clicking off a track color on the right and then typing "V" still works to invert the deselection,
showing only 1 track (in PRV) but the short cut to show all, which used to be "A" is now gone.
Has that been replaced by an other hot key or has it just been eliminated?
The fix is to "V" again and then turn that track back on, or in the reverse order. Both work.

All input is welcome! Thanks!

Steve - what you're attempting to do might be possible by using different screensets.

The guy to ask about this is Karl (Fast Biker Boy) - he's on the forum quite often so watch out for him - he might even see this thread and jump in, or you could drop him a PM

The problem wont go away by putting everything into a single track. You can edit in the PRV and have more than one PRV open. The way you do this is lock the PRV that is open and than open another, and so on.

I would have a track group outputting to a single channel, if they share the same channel channel. All this would do is have multiple instruments of the same type on that channel.

Below is from page 1052 of the manual

Locking views
By default SONAR allows only one instance of each view, but you can lock the contents of most
views, preserving the current view by forcing a new instance of the view to appear if necessary.
Locking views is the only way you can have multiple instances of the same view open. Only the
Track and Console views cannot be locked.
To lock/unlock a view
Do one of the following:
• Click the upper left corner of a window, and choose Lock Contents from the pop-up menu.
If the view is docked in the MultiDock, right-click the view’s tab and choose Lock Contents.

Jonesey: Screenshots sounds promising. I'll try it when I wake up tomorrow. Thanks!

John: "putting everything into a single track" is not being considered, and I've no problem locking multiple PRV. I figured that out a few days ago.

Kind of!

1. Close the controller views individually, or

2. "Hide" the controller pane by clicking and dragging down the separator bar at the top of the controller pane.

*Be careful not to drag it all the way down or it will switch to "Hide Controller Pane" and "spew" them all over the PRV again - a new feature in X2 that is a  real "pain".
