I use Addictive Drums which has a custom drum map for my Roland TD11 kit.  See if Superior has any custom drum maps for the kit your using.

Sorry,it took so long to get back. In SD2 there is the mapping tab in the left top corner of the construct page. Click there and the mapper comes up. You should see the presets tab over the keyboard. Click there and you will find options for some other maps. Try some of those. I have really gotten lucky with my tracks because I tend to keep the same mapping as GM. This has worked out great for me, other than the octave adjustment I posted. Did you load Toontrack Solo on your computer? That is a very handy program. It allows you to pull up SD2 as a stand-alone instrument without using Sonar as a host. You can edit your map either with the mapping page or simply edit the midi notes in the lower right corner of the construct page. Be sure to save your kit once you get what you want. I don't use drum pads to program. I do all my own custom drum tracks using the staff view for step writing and an M-Audio Keystation 88 Pro.

One more thing! Are you explicitly using midi in a DAW to record? You could use Toontrack Solo and record the audio performance live if you wanted to use SD2 as a sound module. I would prefer to record midi for better options to edit the track later but if you want to play a live track that option is open to you as well.

Ok, so Ive searched a little for this and couldnt find the exact mechanisms of it within sonar

Can anyone point me a link where I can do this effectively or from experience could someone give some details/advice.

I have to arrive somewhere and get this recorded so I dont really have time to fool around beforehand with equipment and options.

The kit is a roland (not sure which model but certainly not the higher end ones) and I'm looking to record a drummer along with a vocalsit/guitarist. So I need to record the kit via MIDI and then use SD2 samples. Am I correct in saying that I will need to create a drum map??

Thanks,

Cian

Superior Drummer has a "Learn" key on the bottom right hand side of the screen. You highlight a the drum sound you want. Then click" learn." Then tap the part of your roland drum kit you want that sound to be link to. Once you get your entire kit set up you can save that drum set with the triggers youve just programmed. Just make yourself a location to save them in.  I have many kits saved that way with two different kits from a yamaha dx kit and a roland kit.

Works pretty good and easier than going through all that drum mapping. I can set up a kit in a minute.

Good Luck,

Thanks for all the responses, which I will have to reread to wrap my head around it.

I see the mapping section in SD2, there are about 6 mapping presets there, I guess I could try those and see if Im lucky.

The most fool proof way seems to be mooch4056's way if I can nail it.

Thanks for all your help, checked out all links and website postings and they all helped.

I'm not really directly familiar with the SD2 program, but if it works like other mapping that I've seen, it works for some things, like making the right notes trigger the right notes in the sampler, but miss on some other things that the Sonar drum maps provide - if nothing else, a much better view in the piano roll for dealing with drum tracks, programmed or played.  Please take a look at the videos and at least have it as one your options.
