  • Upgrading X1 to X2 - worth of 99 euros?

Hi everyone! What do you guys think: should I pay 99 euros and upgrade my X1 Producer Expanded (with all the ProChannel modules) to X2? I use X1 with Reason 6.5 (+ Refills: Soul School, Disco School, Abbey Road Keyboards, Drum Refill, Ozone Maximizer), Amplitube 3.9, ValhallaRoom and I'm quite happy with that little combination of different softwares and plugins. So is X2 upgrade necessary? I don't want to pay extra for using Overloud TH2 or Breverb 'cos I already have a very good guitar amp software and reverb plugin.

Yes it is. You will love X2.

YES. Will be even better when the service packs come out for X2.

Well personally I did upgrade to X2 but found it a little unstable, so have gone back to X1 for the time being - shall look at X2 again after the first patch.
I did like some of the new features though - after the first patch has sorted some of the bugs (which are all pretty minor I think), it will be well worth the time and effort to upgrade and get used to the new ways of doing things.
The main reason I did not persevere at the moment is that we are in the middle of a large project, so didn't want sorting software issues in the way whilst we recorded.
I am sure upgrading will be worth it in the long run.

I went from my beloved 8.5 to X1 Studio for 3 months and then to X2P, so I have new toys that I'm terribly impressed with that may skew my judgement but...

X2 is about convenience, I've talked to several people (all longtime CW guys) about it and  we've all basically said "why haven't we requested this & this & this before?".

I realize many enhancements have been requested here and elsewhere, but X2 really is intuitive - you can just bumble your way through it and it just feels better to me.

$99 means different things to different people and I do know some that are happily still using 8.5, but just watch the vids and see if it's worth it to you.

The small workflow changes that make a huge difference are worth it alone IMHO. Auto zoom, smart grid, etc. etc.

Add on FX chains now in the PC, effectively putting as many FX bins anywhere in the chain you want, plus BREVERB and it really is a no brainer.

Depends on your OS and whether you will have to upgrade this too - diffferent OS spec to X1.

Not necessary, but for the toys you get its worth it.

I definitely think it' worth it, for the workflow enhancements alone.

Take and automation lanes, smart grid, auto track zoom, zoom and scroll in the time ruler, to name a few.  It's fantastic.

And also for the PC FXChains and Console Emulations - both great.

Not sure if i think its worth it yet. Take lanes, smart grid, and the rest of the work flow enhancements are cool, but no faster or easier for me having worked the old way so long. I haven't found any use for Rapture full yet, neither the Roland plugin. The Overloud Breverb is fantastic imo, it has plenty of presets and is plenty tweakable, but TH2 is a disappointment as it is a severely limited demo. Upgrading both of these to full will now cost around ~$500 i think. The audio engine is still not gapless either. So apart from Breverb and the Console Emulation, everything else is kind of whatever. I just really wish we had been given gapless playback and a more complete version of TH2. Maybe the content club will come through with some more goodies (the last offer was a bit of a cop out though as Loopmasters already offers free content for all their sample packs on their website).
