Hi everyone.
I’ve been experiencing a few minor niggle with various soft synths in X2, especially the Pentagon & TTS-1.

So I’ve completely removed all traces of all previous versions of Sonar, this included removing the necessary registry keys for each installed version.

My intention was, and still is, just to have 64 bit X2 installed and nothing else.

But, even after doing this, I still can’t get the 2 synths referred to above to gain any sort of functionality. They seem to install ok and both are available in the list of installed synths, but after installing them, I get the following behaviour:

Pentagon – the “frame” of the synth opens but other than that, the GUI is totally blank. Closing the synth via the ‘X’ crashes Sonar immediately.

TTS-1 – the frame of the synth opens ok, the GUI is displayed properly, the list of patches/programs are displayed but none of them sound. There is no Midi activity. Closing the synth again crashes Sonar immediately.

So, any ideas people? I like to use these 2 lightweight synths when sketching out new ideas for projects, fully intending to replace them later on with either another synth or with actual recorded instruments.

Thanks, Jonesey

Did you remember to check the "Run this program as an administrator" box in the SONARPDR.exe compatibility tab?

I'm almost certain I did Steve, but it's something else I can have a look at tonight

Thanks

Hmmm...

I had things going funny with X1 Essential (32-bit) and X2 Essential (64-bit) installed at the same time. I needed to eliminate the temptation to switch between 32-bit and 64-bit because neither have all of the same plugin-ins installed (including third party stuff).

Here's what I did.

Uninstall everything. Rename existing cakewalk projects directory to something Sonar won't recognize, say, 'c:\zzz cakewalk projects'. Delete Cakewalk Content directory. Go into "c:\users\'you'\AppData\...." and delete anything named cakewalk (AppData is a hidden directory).
Run a registry clean. Run a 'clean-up temp files'.

Re-install X2 Essential. Re-install any cakewalk libraries or instruments. Copy any projects I need from the old renamed project directory to the new one.

Done.

Thanks for that Gene.

I did make a start tonight, only for the install to fail at the very first hurdle because i think one of the downloads is corrupted, so I'm currently downloading them again which takes a while.

Its 10pm here now so I won't be finishing tonight, looks like I'll be carrying on tomorrow.

Thanks for your input though

Well, I've stuck with it and things appear to be improving.

I've got a basic Sonar installed (still got to do Dim Pro, all the add-on packs, Pro channel modules etc, but Pentagon & TTS-1 are working!!

Now, if only I can find the dll's for my T-Racks3 plugs.......

Almost everything in X2 works as advertised on my system, but I have this problem, too.  I'm hoping that CW sees this and fixes it.  May as well file a report with CW.

Ok, all fully reinstalled & working properly, apart from one thing.

I've set up my usual custom keybindings, but the alt key isn't triggering them like it used to - it's triggering the Menu accelerators - anyone know what can cause this?

Interesting to here what you're going through Jonesey. I've been watching a couple of similar topics about re-installing X2 and also Windows 8. I'm almost ready to get myself a new 480gb SSD and start from scratch and at the same time hopefully sort out some of my minor gripes, as well as moving onto W8, which I'm hearing some good things about.

How about licencing? Is that going okay? I'mm be installing onto a new drive so I am anticipating some licensing issues, not just with X2.

Good luck with the rest of your install :-)

Licensing with Sonar is a piece of piss mate - even easier if your DAW is online as you can just copy & paste all the codes straight into the dialog boxes.

Native Instruments are a bit of a pain, and if you're forced to work offline, IK Multimedia's system will reduce you to either tears or extreme violence.

Most of the rest, in my experience are pretty straight forward.

This is the first time my DAW has been online since September when I first downloaded X2
