I've installed Cakewalk 2004 xl on a new machine with windows 7.  I do not have any metronome sound with the new machine.  the only clue i can give you is that maybe its because the new machine doesn't have the same midi files to choose from?  I have no idea how to run midi, i simply run my yamaha p-250 through a tascam 122mk2 and then into the computer. The help section is no help to me, it assumes i know way more than i do, so if you are sending me directions on how to select a new midi sound for the metronome, please make the instructions as baby as possible.  I would be very grateful.

It's likely that the program won't run well, or at all on Win 7.
When I first bought this Win 7 machine I tried to load Music Creator 2003, Music Creator Pro 24 (came out in 2004) and SONAR Home Studio 6 (2005) on it.
The only one that works is SHS 6.
Try changing your Driver Mode to MME.
You may be able to right-click the Cakewalk icon and select Troubleshoot Compatibility.
Didn't work for MC 2003 and Pro 24, though. "Incompatible Program" is the message I got.

Greg is right. I have dozens of programs, all on CD-ROM/DVD, some audio, some games but none of them will even install under Win 7

It might be time to embrace a newer program..........

I guess i should be happy that 2004xl is running at all!  It seems to record everything correctly, and I've managed to import my old wav files from my old machine.  perhaps it is because i'm only recording analogue.

I'm getting too old to have to learn a new system but maybe that's what going to happen.  Seems a shame though, software less than 10 years old and already out of date. (Like i said, I'm getting too old for this).
