I do know for a fact that people you search for on fb (Who you have no mutual friends with) will eventually all show up on your People You May Know list a month or two later if you clicked to see their profiles.

You're right. Last week I looked up an ex co-worker and a week later she came up in my People You May Know list. I looked at my search bar results and she appears and disappears from it. What I can't figure out is why someone I am not friends with but know each other, not personally though, just seen each other around, and share 1 mutual friend, is locked high at the top of my search bar results, and for a time kept reappearing in my People You May Know list. 
 
Strangely, this person kept coming up if I logged in the morning but then would suddenly disappear, only to come back the next morning. It felt like this person would look at my profile a certain time of day that's why they came up and disappeared. I did look at the their profile twice so I'm not sure if looking at their profile caused anything to happen.

I was curious to see what the bullies from High School and grade school were doing.  Most of them are losers.  :D  One of the ****y 8th graders who bullied me for being gay now owns an antique store.  Very strange.

If someone searches for your profile on Facebook and views it, you will inevitably see that person as a "people you might know" suggestion on your newsfeed.

So... just exactly how is this done? I don't use FB but if I looked someone up there how would they know it was me?

I can understand friends of mutual friends coming up as 'people you may know', but I recently deleted a whole slew of random people I'd never heard of, and who are not friends with any of my friends. I guess they may have looked at my profile after I'd commented on something they were looking at...dunno.
 
I check FB most days but usually just end up 'hiding' inane posts from people, or those awful toe-curling memes about 'love' or 'relationships' that people insist on sharing. Gack.

I don't use FB but if I looked someone up there how would they know it was me?

Two ways: first, you can appear in their "People You May Know List". Second, you can randomly appear in their search bar results. If the person types "S" and Soens comes up in the list and they have never looked you up before, then it means you looked them up. I think if they even type more than one letter it still means the same thing.

Facebook..pfft.

This person was in my search bar results for a while then disappeared. After a few weeks they came back when I typed in the first letter of their first name. I haven't looked at their profile in months. I think it means they looked at my profile again, that's why they came up. I could be wrong.
