I done 5 installs today on windows 8 laptops for the kids. After the first 20-30 min I really dig it. Personally I plan on upgrading very very soon.

Well - if you only use Komplete 8 and X2 you can get away with it. Keep in mind there will be an X2 update for W8, so at this moment X2 is not guaranteed to work without flaws. Another problem is drivers and older plugins. Because W8 is released just a while ago, it is possible some -not yet updated- drivers will give problems. Some hardware drivers will never get an update (like we have seen with older hardware and W7). Older plugins are another problem. It is possible strange things could happen (like freezes, crashes, dropouts etc.) because they are not updated. In general If your computer will become "mission critical" I would advise to stick with W7 for now (just buy the inexpensive update to W8 now, so you can inexpensively update on a later date), and wait for a while until you are certain no strange things will happen. If it is a "add-on" computer and you don't mind to take some (admitted not so big) risks, then go for W8. This is just my point of view - other people will give other advises, so in the end you are the one to decide...

Just awhile ago? Its been out for way over a year. I first heard about it 4 years ago. The notion that its not ready yet is untrue.

Ehh.. The final version is released for public on 26 October 2012. Before that it was only available for MSDN subscribers. And - yes.. there was a consumer preview version available on 16 february 2012, but that version was not really the same as the final version (as an example - you could still use the aero transparency in the preview version, but in the final version it is disabled). Anyway - there is no guarantee older plugins/drivers will work good with the FINAL version of W8. My advise is to try it out, but be aware some things could not work - and it is possible they will never be upgraded... that's all. I have been working as troubleshooter in the IT department of a large organization, and it was common practice to test all possible combinations of hard- and software for a 6 month period, before rolling it out in a "mission critical" environment. I will admit this practice has become standard for me, and it has some influence on the advise I give here... sorry about that..

The plugins I have installed work. They run the gamut from Ozone 5 and 4 to Kontakt 5, Battery, Steven Slate Drums 4,  BFD eco  GPO, Melda stuff too. Also Moog Mod 5. Oh, as well as Nugen 32 bit plugins.  Not one plugin I have tried has failed. The only caution is be sure to have Windows 8 hardware drivers. X2 Pro is solid as a rock so far on win 8.

One thing I have looked out for in this forum are negative posts from Windows 8 users. I have seen none. Its the ones that don't have it that cation not to get it yet. I wonder why that is?

Use your common sense here and try to list error reports due to running Windows 8 and X2. Its great to be safe with an OS. Its another thing to be paranoid. Because I had the opportunity to test it well enough before I bought it and fully committed to it I am rather confident with it.

We all had that same opportunity if we chose. I think its time for the uncommitted to sit back and see what the results are before giving advice about it.

My black friday laptop already has 8 on it, but it seems slow and I don't want shopping and social network windows and cute little animations bloating it down. I already have an 8gb ram kit coming. I looked in resources and so much had been absorbed purely in running 8... Tips / Tweaks for performance in win 8 ???? Thanks for all the replies!!! gh426

So...there´s no way to install win7 on an  new system...

1. I run it on a second PC (same SystemConfig). Win8 runs with quiet a bit better performance for audio...not very much... but "feel"...;)
2. As I wrote on "1." there´s no need (like the issues we´d got on XP vs. Vista) to install the older windows.
3. All drivers and PlugIns on my system running perfectly.
  4. Most of the developers who can´t guarantee win8 comp. will releasing patches very soon...
