• SONAR
  • Installing EZDrummer was a Mess - RESOLVED

I bought EZDrummer at the $29 sale price.  I got an email with the download link and serial number.  After that, it was a total mess.

•  The download link installed something called SOLO.  When I opened Solo in stand-alone mode, all I got was an error message saying, "No Drummers Found."
•  EZDrummer is not available in the soft synth list in Sonar.  I have Sonar set to scan for VSTs when it starts.
•  I downloaded the Win updates.  The 64-bit would not run because it said I needed the 32-bit installed first.  The 32-bit would not run.  It gave me an error msg saying the product was not found.
•  I cannot authorize the product because Toontrack requires you to start the product in your host to get the information required for authorization.  Obviously, I do not have that since I cannot start the product.

I went throught the install and download process a couple of times to see if I had missed something.

Anyone have similar experiences or advice?

This was basically a waste of money and a day. (Although I can't afford to waste money, the $29 is a very minor issue compared to a wasted day.  Plus, I was looking forward to using the product.)

wow. sorry to hear you had such troubles. EZD is a good product. The $29 product you bought, was it one of the drum paks or was it the BASE EZDrummer? I have never seen the base product sell that cheap, where-as the individual paks always go on sale for that price. Without the BASE product the add ons will not work. Maybe that explains the error messages?

Konrad, the support from ToonTrack is very good. An email to them would be worth it.

OK, will follow up.  This is the link and it was supposedly a door-buster price on the normal EZDrummer VST.

hey Konrad - how have you been? If it makes you feel better about your purchase, once you have the wrinkles ironed out on EZ drummer, it is a great tool - you'll love it

That kind of horror, is enough to make me avoid a product! I hate messy installs. You're never quite happy about it being on your computer after all that lot.

well that link at Sweetwater does look like the base pak. hmm. Their support is quite good as well, so at least you have 2 good sources of help here. Any chance your download was corrupted? The SOLO part seems odd here. I do not recall anything like that on my original install. BTW, I live 15 minutes from Sweetwater. Want me to stop by and tell them to call you? :)

Konrad, what was your download file called? I went out to my account and if I try to download the base ezdrummer the file is called TT106_EZdrummer_WIN.zip The current base might not be 106 any longer though. Just another thing to check.

I'm sorry to hear you've had problems Konrad.  I bought the same deal as you did, but, I'm sorry to say mine installed flawlessly. I just followed the default setup and authorised easily.

Have you miss placed the EZdrummer.Dll? Has it gone to a Steinberg VST folder or anything like that? Sometimes happens. If you can find the DLL you will then be able to point solo and sonar to it.

Hi, Daryl and thanks guys.  Yes, I ran an installer called TT106_EZdrummer_WIN.zip.  Maybe the link was corrupted.  I will try again later today.

By the way, on Sunday, I was also having a ton of Sonar crashes.  While that was unrelated to EZDrummer, it made for a frustrating day.

Glad to hear EZD is a good tool.  I love EZMix2.  It does not have everything, but it has a ton for the money and what it has is mostly highly usable.  My thought was to live with EZDrummer for a while and then decide whether to add packs or upgrade to Superior Drummer at some point.  Session Drummer works well but even with a couple of add-on packs, I feel like I often can't find the sound I want.

By the way, on another thread I mentioned that there is some good free content from NI for the free Kontakt player.  I actually used the kick drum from one of the free kits on a track I just completed and it sounds really good.
