I just send Waves a ticket about the issue.

Havent tried the run as admin yet since I'm not at the studio.

Make sure you disable XRay when using waves plugins. Not sure about the most recent plugins but prior ones had graphics issues when Xray was active in SONAR. (you have to disable it even if Xray is not on since it sets a windows property always)

There may be several possible reasons for this behavior.

Have you tried running X1 as "administrator"?  This may help.  I just did it
and the knobs on Master Tape were very smooth.

Even though you may be the adminstrator, if you are not right clicking and selecting
"run as Administrator" you may have problems.  I know in order to register some
programs you must run X1 as "administrator" or the plugin activation will not "take",
i.e. Dimension Pro and Rapture.

Just a thought...

Is right clicking and selecting 'run as administrator' each time,
different than
just setting it up to 'run as administrator' in the properties?

LOL...nope....I know the question is rhetorical...but...no same thing...

I was recommending that as the "test"...just to find out....

But the difference is having to do it each time as opposed to setting it up and letting it go...LOL

I too have problems with the sliders and knobs Not turning All the way in one click and sweeep. Works fine if you open a project, don't pass Audio, play with knobs (work fine), run audio through once and then they don't work right again (have to re-click and drag, more than once most times). I've actually showed waves this Via Cross Loop Connect. Don't know when it'll be fixed. There's been 1 waves update since, but problem is still there.

When was the last time you downloaded V9 ? ..... They did an update not too long ago  . that could be what fixed it on my machine.

fyi, there was a known issue with AMD/ATI video drivers. upgrading to latest fixed an issue for me.

I've spoken to Wave's support and they were like "Whaaa?". They had never even heard of the problem. :-(

Waves has MOST certainly heard of it. They witnessed it on my computer. Btw- I have the latest update as of 9/15 and the GUI problem is STILL there.

That's scary that their support claimed to be unaware - this is a fairly common problem experienced for years.  Do some google searches and you'll see many instances of it.  I had the same issue a few years ago, some common causes were:
- as others have said above, disable x-ray
- ensure your video drivers are up to date
- try different resolutions, I vaguely remember this occurring if resolution was set too high?
- ensure you have the latest version of Waves installer (v9 fixed it for me)
- I also vaguely remember something about video cards with low amounts of RAM having issues as well.

Hope this helps.

I have the latest graphicsdriver, latest installers, latest everything. I've tried disabling x-ray and it didn't work (not sure if I restarted SOnar though, if that's needed.

BUT....

It seems to be working better in Sonar X2. At least so far. I've had times recently when it has worked better as well but then started with the weird behaviour again. So it might be a bit early to tell. But all tests have worked so far.

I've even offered Waves to send them a video I made of the problem. But they dont seem interested.
They say they never experienced the problem and it's working fine on their test setup. That obviously is enough for them. I think it sucks. Because on their DAW-compability site it says X1 is compatible.

I also noticed that their NS1 noise reduction worked MUCH better under Sonar X2 for some weird reason. And I'm not talking about the GUI here but sound. In X1 I had to pull the slider up to 80% to get rid of the noise of my guitar. But on X2 20% was enough.
And yes, I was testing with a clean new project with the default template. So no weird settings messing about...
