You may install X2 right next to 8.5... they'll be independent of each other.

You may want to make a disc image of your current system drive as a reference.

I did almost exactly that: installed X1 next to 8.5, then uninstalled X1 after a few months. Not only did I have no problems with 8.5 afterward, but I retained a couple of updated plugins that had been included with the X1 install. So I actually benefited from the X1 install even after deciding to bag it and go back to 8.5.

I have 8.5 and X1 on a win xp 32 bitt setup, it has never given me any issues, then a standalone win7 32 bitt of x-2.. it too works very well.no crash's ever !!

I did have issues when uninstalling X1 trial last spring.

I tried to install the 8.5.3 update but no joy. And could not install the original file cuz updates had been installed.

So, I uninstalled 8.5.3 to be able to install from the beginning. I did not install ANYTHING ELSE but the core program. Hence any updated vst, sample,... files were maintained.

Why not restore with image?  It was more than 30 days. No way to know what all I had changed via win updates, driver updates,...
