So I downloaded the LoopMasters-100_Artist_Series_Compilation.zip file and copied the files to \Cakewalk Content\Audio Library.

Um...now what?  Do I drag these files into a Sonar project? Where, into a track, or the Matrix view I suppose?  Can Dimension, Rapture, etc play the files?

Free stuff is nice, but this was just a Zip file dumped on us.  If you are excited and thankful for this free content, then you must know:  How do you use the files within Sonar?

Yes, you can just drag them into the track then drag the ends to make the repeat or shorten them. You can also double click the clip to edit them in the PRV/loop Constructor. And yes you can simply drag them into the matrix.

Not to be a RTFM guy but there is some pretty extensive entries on this kind of thing in the manual as well as videos on this site. You just gotta spend some time learning how to do it. It's not all that hard. Have fun.

It does take quite some time though... it's not magic..... Tho.... You'll notice grey hairs once you master it... Strange.... All those hip Youtube gods seem so young.... Plastic surgery must be cheap...

Oh and here's a tip from another n00b. When dragging loops into the track view try to give each different loop it's own track. Like if you have multiple instances of it don't toss a different loop into the same track in between them. I did that my first try and I built a whole song then realized I could tweak my elements properly and it was a huge hassle trying to sort it all out. Cheers.

Meh. It takes a while to master I'm sure but I slapped the following together in a couple nights the week I bought Sonar X1. It was my first time using Sonar and my first time ever using loops. All I did was drag stuff into the TV and slice and dice...

I had barely read anything about loops in the manual at that point. It was the cleaning it all up for mixing that took a while because as I said I just tossed stuff in willy nilly.

Thank all.  I just wanted to be sure all this content is used directly in Sonar tracks, and not via any plugins.

@Beepster: nice track.  Is that a Seven reference?  I was waiting the Brad Pitt sample; ya left me hanging!

DING DING DING!!!

We have a winner. Step up and collect your prize of... umm. Well I don't have a prize but you won. ;-)

That's a good idea though. I might actually revisit that song and now that I know more about how to work with Sonar I might toss in some samples from the movie. That's probably illegal but I don't give a fart.

Cheers!
