I have a problem with Session Drummer 3 after upgrading to Sonar X2. When I drag drum clips from the media browser into the time line SD3 plays the first bar then it quiet. It does not stop but there's no sound. Clips play fine in the media browser though when I route them to play on SD3.  Help enyone?

How many bars did you expand the drums loop ? A clip may be from 1 to 4 or more bars, and it will stop playing once the clip reach it's end, unless it's expanded (the same clip will loop forever if played inside SD3).

So, it may be that you are auditioning. If you click the infinity sign, it will loop continuously for audition purposes. The trick then is to drag the + sign to your project and then drag out the loop. In other words, when you load up a drum kit into session drummer, this just prepares the kit... it doesn't add midi to a midi track sending to Session drummer. But there are some drum midi bits you can audition if you click them. when you find one you like, drag the + to your midi track in your project. Then you can drag it out to the length you want it.

Don't forget to click the Stop button in the SD3 transport or you'll get double-hits/phasing as SD3's pattern player keeps running in parallel with the MIDI clip. You can also unload the MIDI pattern from SD3 once you've moved it to a track, just to make sure this can't happen.

Also, be aware that there is still an outstanding bug that the pattern you get by dragging form SD3 may not be the one that you're hearing. There's some disconnect between the pattern buttons and the MIDI files behind them for some patterns.

And finally, to the OP's issue: My guess would be this is a MIDI buffering issue. Make sure the "Prepare Using" buffer under Preferences > MIDI > Playback and Recording is 500ms. The new default of 250 doesn't no work well in some environments, resulting in dropped notes or whole clips.

The clip is two bars, besides I have a loop point for two bars setup but only the first bar is played.

That's how I did it, it was draged from the + sign into the time line. the clip is two bars, and I have a loop point set up for two bars, it also loops fine over the two bars, but still plays only one bar and then quiet. It works fine to audition the clip though, it plays just fine there.

I solved it. You need to check the "MIDI source" option when you insert a soft synth, else you won't get a MIDI track, but you can still drag a clip to it. It was strange however that it played the first bar, in my opinion it shouldn't have played at all. Thanks all for helping though!
