Remember Zip Disks and how they were the shiznit for a few years? lol... glad I never invested in one of those drives. Those things sure didn't stick around long.

they were handy compared to the EZ drive I have, they were used for DTP and samplers.. nothing bad about them..
you have to think , samplers were 32 meg etc.. so it was to scale of them vs 3.5's

I still own 5.25's / 3.5's / ez and zip carts  and even the 3.5 's have their uses still (bios reflashing etc)

the things that "kept" the best... 30 year old tapes for 8 bit computers, where disks / cd's / floppy's have long failed.

Yeah, newer does not always equate to better. I have a feeling Zip disks were more expensive to manufacture though as well as those old tape cartridges. The tape based stuff was waaaay before my time though. The only stuff I saw that for in my short time in the PC scene was back up systems.

My brother wrote the floppy disk format software for the BBC model B..  Was it 5.25", I can't remember?

It used to play Beethoven's Fifth if it worked, and the funeral march if it didn't..

My first computer was a Commodore 64 back in 1983. It came with a cassette deck and some programs took upwards of 10 minutes to load. I used to write programs in assembly language, convert it to hex and then to decimal, which I loaded into memory via POKE statements. I remember getting a drum sequencer for it called Dynamic Drums and it was awesome. The SID music chip was a legend, and I have fond memories of listening to game music over and over. Some of the C64 game music by Rob Hubbard was incredible - check out One Man And His Droid on YouTube.

@Ted... Ya, man. I avoided computers completely until about... oh I guess about ten years ago (yeesh... it's been that long? lol... gettin' old too I guess). One of the main reasons was they were just so prohibitively expensive and complicated for very little benefit to me. I even wrote songs about my Neo-Luddite sentiments back in the day. However as things got less expensive and I was forced to use them more and more at work and they started doing things that were actually useful to ME I slowly changed my tune. I still kind of hate the buggers but at least I can see their usefulness now so the learning curve and expense are worth it. Seriously if you guys knew me even 3 or 4 years ago you'd think I had suffered some kind of head trauma from my sheer lack of intelligence in regards to computers.

Heck... even reading my posts from a few months ago makes me cringe. lol

So have any of you guys used Kinetic? Is this just garbage? I won't bother installing it if it is.

I remember my brother building one of the first home computers, was it called a UK101?

My first computer was a ZX81, with 1k of memory.  He built me a 4k expansion pack for my birthday.  Sinclair released a 16k expansion pack, but that was insane - what could you possibly need 16k for?

Sorry to go off topic, Beep..   Nostalgia..

Heheh... not off topic at all. It was a boring question which is why I asked for tales of relics as well to spice it up. This is awesome. ;-)
