I find that all authentication systems have +/-. That said I really can't see myself spending additional money to prove I'm legit. If the vendor choses that path they will not be getting a purchase from me.

Don't recall the year but AutoDesk tried a dongle for their flagship product AutoCAD and the user community said 'Take a hike'. They removed the dongle requirement. I know I won't see that from Eventide but still: why should I have to pay money to legitimize a purchase I already made?

Regards,

I agree if they throw in the ilok i'm there.

The iLok costs $50. So if I buy this plugin, I HAVE to add $50.

The reason is to continually VERIFY my legitimate purchase.

I have an image of my HD, so I only need to do it once... I have done it may times with NI and never had an issue.

Different views.  But I am a little bummed, I would LOVE this plug.

What happens if you lose the dongle?

Seriously, I've never owned one.

Actually, you can buy 'insurance' against loss or damage from the iLok people. It costs about $30 a year. However, it's completely up to each software vendor as to if they are willing to issue you a replacement license or not. Most will provide you with a replacement license, with some charging a fee for the service. I imagine that there are a few vendors out there that aren't willing to accommodate such requests.

iLok's insurance service basically provides you with 'instant' temporary licenses that you can use until you can get a legit replacement license from the vendor.

Oh good lord. So essentially SOL or drop a bunch of extra cash.

Yeah... I was somewhat warming to the idea of iLoks but that's whack.

Sorry iLok companies. Your wares aren't worth the risk, hassle and being treated like a criminal. Plenty of other alternatives.
