I’m seriously suggesting this!

Logic dictates to me that this incessant family squabbling must soon come to an end, and Yes! I see the irony in that statement coming from me. I could have chosen some better descriptive and diplomatic word in recent posts. I like many others here are a mere mortal. What we are collectively going to do about it is the objective of this post.

It seems to me at least that we need to concentrate on the things that we share and not what bugs that effect one user and not another. The most obvious thing we share is the desire to create great sounding music aided by software, which has a long well respected history. CAKEWALK! If any of us did not think that cake has the potential to be the number one DAW on the market, fulfilling the vast majority of our needs then we would have gone elsewhere a long time ago.

I would love to be a fly on the wall in cakes bakers’ and other staff members lunchroom (If they have one) I tend to think that they may be as frustrated at the direction cake is headed as myself and many other forum members are. They may not be in a situation where then can say “I think this release needs another two months of beta testing before release to our supporters” or “we still haven’t fixed the bugs in the plugs that were in 8.5 maybe we should fix that before we create a new exciting feature” Job security can make a person think twice before voicing an opinion to vigorously. I understand and totally accept that. Besides I personally believe a lot if not all of this turmoil emanates from unrealistic dates, which ultimately come from the top. Roland.

So what to do? My own business motto comes to mind.
        Q. How do you sell somebody something?
        A. Find out what they want and sell it to them!
On the strength of my QnA I seriously suggest that we need to tell the top brass precisely what we want and what we don’t want, speaking out as a collective by means of an open letter sent to Cake and Roland head office.

Members can hammer out the precise nature of this correspondence on this forum. I welcome a constructive alliance off all members wishing to participate as a collective.

No slagging off, a calm, informative, passive, creative correspondence from a significant number of disgruntled customers, I believe would make a momentous difference in future releases of the cake we all love to eat.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope you respond.

On a personal note…
I offer a complete apology to any forum member that I have offended in the past and I pledge to be more understanding and considerate forum member.

Personally, I'll pass on this. I'm satisfied with X2 as it is.

Maybe you should limit the letter to all the disgruntled users only.

I couldn't follow. My brain must be deteriorating.

Due to the nature of development itself, prioritization forces, market forces, testing complexities, and a whole bunch of other stuff, I do not myself believe that any other way than bringing up and dealing with issues on an individual basis would ever work.

I therefore would respectfully decline to participate in any grouping of issues into some singularly-presented letter.

If you look at the types of errors reported thus far for X2, there are really not so many 'really big show stoppers' out there, and I would imagine that the development/testing cycle as already in place is almost certainly deep in the process of review/development/testing to resolve.

So...

I have been assuming that this is a Cakewalk support forum i.e. a forum provided by Cakewalk to encourage users to solve other users' problems so that they will not have to hire a bunch of people in the Philippines or India to answer the phones and suggest the obvious, and not as the OP apparently believes a place where users should congregate to support Cakewalk in making Sonar the number one DAW on the market. I agree that there is a great deal of carping about the failings of the product. Those could be very useful to someone investigating which DAW they want to buy, but CW has repeatedly said that they do not routinely visit these forums to search out bug reports or feature requests, for both of which they have official forms.

Bugs that affect only a few users (as opposed to those that affect all users) are the essence of this model. Cakewalk has little motivation and no resources for dealing with those problems. If someone has found a kludge or workaround after spending hours under the hood, and can make that public to help fellow sufferers, that is golden.

As for the family model, well I have a family, and I am none too happy about that. Talk about bugs and incompatibilities. Clearly the quality control in that area of life is even less effective. The constant squabbles, feuds, venting and name-calling on this forum does, however indicate that there is far more we have in common with a family than we realize.

Fact is the whole ethos of sonar is deep stuff that sometimes go wrong, selling hopes that everything will be sorted in the next version. If everything works then what's the point of upgrading? Lol.

I suppose you get a lot more with sonar than most daws, pro tools isn't 64 bit yet I don't think. But when you sling it all into a package, from a business perspective it sells. When it kinda works , but doesn't all fit together, then people are yearning for the fixes.

I love x2 as its a proper mission control which does bugger up a bit. It's usually when I am running my mixes after a few pints throwing 3 compressors onto the top of a high hat with 25 instances of reverb.

I want a fart module in the pro channel please.

That's very true.

Myself for example, I say things here that I would never say to a stranger. Even though I've never actually met anyone from these forums, I spend so much time here, I feel like I know most of you. And that familiarity, even though it's text based, makes me feel like I can say anything.

Maybe I shouldn't let myself feel that comfortable though?

I dunno.

I've had heated discussions, and a few times all parties involved lost their cool, I've even been banned, I've joked around and the other party thought I was serious and they got really pissed when I wasn't serious at all and I sat here reading thinking WTF just happened (LOL), but I never felt I've personally attacked anyone. There is a certain line you don't cross whether you feel like you know people or not.

It's only happened on rare occasion here and I think the admin have done a good job at squelching that stuff out quickly.

is this like the episode of simpsons where he takes over his long lost brothers car business ?
(not gonna say what happens in case it spoils it for ya)...

all these companies know if we are fed up , we vote with our money and go elsewhere.. simple as that *BUT* at the same time they still need to make a crust and within a certain time frame.

Sorry Bub but you have attacked me often.  Perhaps you forget. And no, not all of us loose our cool.
