I think the routing of different drums to different outputs is only available if the kit is made up of separate instruments. The free kits that come with the free player are single instruments, whereas, if you load up e.g. Steven Slate kits, they are multis, with each drum or cymbal being a separate instrument that can be routed to your choice of output

Bigdogs, You may have hit upon it, thanks.  I will use separate instances with the free content.  I am planning to order Abbey Road soon.

sharke, Here is the link to the free content.  There are not a lot of intruments, but what is there is very good.  The bass, drums, clav, Rhodes, etc. are excellent, especially since there are articulation controls for each.  There is definitely enough content to do a reasonable rock band arrangement.  The jazz guitar is good, too, but I already have Electri6ity, RealStrat, RealLPC, and some other stuff, so I was less excited about that.

Ah yes, I already have the Factory Library, it came with Kontakt when I bought Komplete. There is indeed some great stuff there.

Take a look at the top left of the drum kit instrument in Kontakt. Do you see a spanner icon? This is the Edit Mode button. I think...but I'm not sure....that perhaps you can use these options to route different notes through different channels. I have no idea how you do it because I have not delved into that area of Kontakt, but I should think it explains everything on that option screen in the manual.

If the spanner isn't there, I guess that means instrument editing is not available in the free player.

If it is, and you can do the routing here, you would of course have to create the stereo channels in the "output" window (icon at the top of the player). There are tutorials on YouTube that explain how to do that.

I have K5 and can access the output section from the toolbar. I can also call up a mixer and mix the individual drums inside of kontakt. If you can't access these modules with the player I think you're stuck. I also can't tell you how I'm set up for multi-outs.

Kontakt really seems to suck when it comes to setting up multi outs. If I set up one kit and then change the kit, the multi out stops working. In the Abbey Road 60's drums you get a retro design interface for the mixer and it's also tied in with the multi out settings.

Kontakt needs to take a leaf out of Battery's book. Setting up multi-outs from Battery is so easy in comparison.

I don't know about the difference between the player and the full version, but with the Abbey Road drums in Kontakt 5, click on the wrench to access the instrument editor.

Click on the Script Editor button. then click on the Mixer tab. A drop-down menu below each fader allows choosing whichever output channels you've added to your output mixer.

I don't think the player does scripting, but it may run scripts...see if the Script Editor button is there.

In Abbey Road Drums, you can access the routing selectors by simply going to the mixer tab at the bottom, you don't need to go via the wrench icon.
