  • Have you guys been using R-Mix much? If so how?

I finally got a chance to play around with R-Mix the other day. My current studio room is quite noisy as I'm close to the furnace and I'm forced to record pretty close to my computer which I built to be "ultra-quiet" but my condensers still pick up some fan noise. So I tossed on R-Mix and used the anti hiss feature and POW... pretty much eliminated all that noise without really effecting the good stuff. Also I was having a heck of a time EQing out the boominess of my acoustic guitar track so I decided to try out the isolation thingy and within seconds I was able to get rid of it along with the last little bits of the background noise. It literally took me a couple minutes to do this on my first try. I really really like it and can't wait to try it out on some of my live stuff.

One thing that I think would be cool was if there could be multiple circle/square hot zones so I could get at various elements of the track in one shot. However I'm just going to make multiple clones of whatever stereo tracks I'm working on and isolate the specific part I want to focus on.

So what are you guys doing with it? I'm surprised there haven't been more threads about this. Cheers.

I use it a lot to remove elements of drum loops I don't like, e.g., removing a kick so I can replace it with something better-suited to what I'm doing.

that's an interesting way to use it.  I haven't even opened it yet because I had not thought of a way to use it.

Ya, that is cool. Didn't think it could separate stuff to that extent. Maybe I'll see if I can get rid of an annoying little buzz on a loop I've got going in one of my projects. That's a little different though. Cheers.

Did it come with instructions? I'm lost every time I fiddle with it.

Hitting F1 isn't bringing up the manual? It's a pretty straightforward tool though. Not much to really know aside from create your blob or square then move the Inside and Outside faders to get rid of stuff or turn stuff up. The noise filtering stuff is pretty self explanatory too. It usually takes me quite a while to get the hang of most things. This just seemed to hop right into my lap. It was a nice change. Cheers.

I really like RMix alot. It's like one of these 'from the future' type plugins such as melodyne or Izotope RX.

The Cakewalk blog has an interesting article where Noel and his friend used RMix to sort out some of his old recordings. http://blog.cakewalk.com/...udy-by-noel-borthwick/

I have not really used it in anger yet apart from once where I automated a cool phasey fade out.

Wouldn't it be cool if for Black Friday (I think that's what you Americans call it) Cakewalk got a cheap upgrade to the full RMix VST for us loyal X2 users....

It works great! I had a hihat panned to far left, so I resized the box around it, and panned it to the right. Super easy, literally took 30 seconds. Great tool.

Oh yeah. I forgot you could move stuff around in the stereo field. Definitely a very nice thing to include with X2.

So what's the difference between the light version and the full version?
