I seriously hope Charmin does not have a forum.
Didn't we have a 42 pages long thread/poll downstairs in the Coffee House outlining the merits of each brand of toilet paper some time ago? If not, I'm sure it's only a matter of time before we make it happen. ;)

I am not sure if this was responded to here.   Speed Step as I understand it is in the bios of the computer.  I use intel processors that have speed step capabilities.  This allows the computer to continually change the speed of the processor.   I disabled it in the bios.

Craig -  As I said before I have been reading your articles for decades.  We owe a lot to you.

Crackle and dropouts can also (and mainly is with what I've seen with other peoples setups) be caused by lack of optimization and configuration. Intel speed step should be disabled for instance via BIOS or through reg hack. In my situation I had more crackle than rice crispies with it enabled. Using the right chip set drivers can also be important etc etc.

Can you elaborate on this "speed step" thing?

FYI  Cubase 7 is to be released Dec 5th. I looked at the features plus yamaha's new production io ethernet based and expandable console console integration and Daw control . if it works as advertised it will blow everything that exists now away. This even has a special ASIO guard to prevent dropouts. I think I will be moving on. No offence to CW or current users. I was  there once was. But no one is listening any more to the users just too many bugs still in X2. It can do all kinds of fancy looping, virtual instruments but cannot track a simple 24 track session without multiple cracks pops latency and dropouts .. My time and my clients time are far too valuable to wait for X 20. It really will take that long until someone gets it and fixes the code from the ground up.I See other loyal cake walkers sniffing out other Daw sites so I am afraid I am not the only one. I'm glad I own no stock in this company. I don't think I could sleep knowing my money was in a very leaky boat with impaired deck officers.  Maybe you really should bake cakes , because code writing  just is not  working for you. My only loyalty from this point on is to my clients and myself.Hard earned cash should buy solutions and not admission to Daw Hell.
Please remove from forum. I do thank the kind helpful members for help over the years. I do however believe now this company in beyond help.

well, good luck man and may the Gods of technology treat you better with a new version of Cubase... having used virtually every DAW out there and having gone through two Pro Tools TDM rigs all I can say is pick a horse and ride it - because there are tradeoffs and stability issues in each one.

I can't believe this has reached 6 pages.
It has because we are discussing interesting stuff. The OP is no longer involved.

Yeah, I know what you mean John.

But this stuff has been discussed a thousand times before - none moreso when there's just been a major new release with all that it entails.

Give it time to mature I say and see where we are after a couple of service packs.

Funny hey!
It's quite obvious that the op needs some serious study time if he can't get 24 tracks of plain audio recording/playback. I commented because like it or not in the last few years there does seem to be a lot more (how can I say this) perhaps passive aggressive responses to posters that are critical of Sonar/cakewalk. I remember when even trolls/tards couldn't get us worked up on these forums. We happily WALKED with a simple STABLE daw. Sure the OP probably needs to DEFRAG his drive but there are some major FLAWS, ISSUES, BUGS, whatever you want to call them in sonar they have been present for at least 3 versions now.
HERE'S ONE!.>> Looping midi clips that drive soft synths in the matrix. There is a noticeable drift of between 1-2 ms when the clip is looping in the matrix compared to the same clip looping in the arrangement pane. The flanging in and out when you duplicate two syntyhs is the first telltale sign then there's the erratic hits and velocity on the first notes of the matrix looped syn.ONLY with ASIO latency set at 1.5 ms does it get close to OK! (close isn't good enough).
This does this with my harware as well  (Virus TIJV1080,Supernova,Venom,TB 303) all LFO's sync PERFECTLY when looping in arrange page throw them in the matrix oh oh !! here comes the drift...
Despite having crappy editing tools and the ugliest GUI ever LIVE CAN DO  IT EXACTLY right in session and arrange at the same time without this problem it just can't do all the other things that I "LOVE" about SONAR.
Now.... Tell me it's Audio Drivers, my mobo  my H.D.D my ram my OS my .INI file my byte allocation size on my drives ,my PCI latency or is it the look ahead plugs that im NOT using.
MAYBE it's just Sonar the once" (12) toned" mid 20's DAW that's slowly becoming the overdressed overweight BLOATED mid 40's DAW that can't just run down to the park and back anymore. ROLAND I have LOVED YOU FOR YEARS. get your sh8t together or I'm going to start sleeping around town sheesh I might even try logic on a MAC !!(EEEWW THAT'S TOO GOING FAR)
:)

Ahh.. that explains things.    Having two Labradoodles, I know how much professional grooming can be, so I completely get it.

But you could always freelance, or maybe be one of those "editor at large" folks.  Or work on books in your spare time.    See?   I gots all kinds of good idears.

dude...goldendoodle here...best family dog in the world.

OK class! Time for a movie.

About 10 sec. in you can see the OP, I think.

Anyway, you'll get a real "flip" out of the ending. Enjoy!
