I think my long-winded point is:

Just because you're having a bad time, doesn't mean that anyone who is okay is Ahole, or a "fanboy".  It is just working well for them.

But some like to forget that the opposite is also true.  Just because it works fine for you doesn't mean there are not serious bugs.

Both are true. But its no reason to take it out on the forum members. A more considerate approach will get helpful answers or in those cases where a bug is confirmed you will have the forum 100% behind you in getting it fixed.

Calling members fanbois gets you nowhere. We all know that frustration can enter a post and for the most part I believe we take that into account. Yet no one here has to be here trying to help. Its strictly voluntary and it would be nice if posters realized they are dealing with real people.

Consideration should be paramount in dealing with posts here. We really don't want anyone going away thinking this is an unfriendly place. There's too much of that elsewhere.

We can strive to make it better for everyone.

@vintage wasn't that point already made?
I swear some people only just read the first few lines of any post.

Are you still mad because I wouldn't give you the secret club handshake?

In my experience here there's also a couple of other definitions of fanboi...

Sonar fanboi = name used by User A (who is not having good experience of Sonar) towards User B (who is having a good experience). Usually bought on by User A unable to believe User B might actually be experiencing different results with the same program.

Also used by User A in situations where bugs exist (who is unable to work around any problem and who chooses to moan constantly about how it doesn't work rather than get on with a way that does) towards User B (who files a bug report and then works around the problem while waiting for a fix)

I think it's fair to say this board has a smattering of both User A and User B types.

Hey! I resemble that remark!

Yes, Sonar has some bugs. I save often

What's embarrassing is pilot error bugs, like having MIDI notes cut out because I didn't have a big enough MIDI buffer. Or my personal favorite - bouncing clips to make a composite vocal and ending with a clip that had no audio. I finally figured out that having "Mute" enabled on a particular lane while bouncing probably wasn't a good idea....

The only bug that really impacts me so far relates to grouping and moving large numbers of clips. The other one that crops up is every now and then the Concrete Limiter gets stuck at a gain-reduced setting.

I also think bridging technology is problematic in general. I had several crashing problems before I went through all my plug-ins one day and made sure that Sonar was seeing the 64-bit versions of plug-ins instead of the 32-bit ones if both were installed. That made a huge difference in terms of stability. As in, HUGE.

There have been other bugs, but they're not repeatable and happen rarely, so they don't really impact me...I just close, re-open, and keep going. But the weirdest bug I EVER had was when all of a sudden, the audio became distorted, like the Master Out had been turned all the way up. It drove me crazy trying to figure out what the problem was, I spent about an hour checking levels, seeing if some saturation plug-in had become enabled accidentally, checking latency, you name it. Finally, I gave up and booted up Ableton Live...and its audio was distorted too. Argh. I turned off the computer, turned it back on again, and the audio was fine and has been fine ever since. WTF?!?

Anyway, now it's time for me to say good-bye to the forum. Bye everybody! Good-bye!! See ya!

..because I have a mix I'm working on, and I want to finish off the guitar processing before I go to bed  It's a cover of the Animals' "We Gotta Get Out of this Place," and it will end up on my YouTube channel one of these days. If Sonar crashes or freezes, I'll return and let you know.

I may be mistaken but I think someone from Cakewalk said X1 had been the most successful SOnar ever. Could you find the thread Mr Helpful- I can't be arsed.

My apologies, I got the quote slightly wrong:

John

I have used X1 from its release. I have not had any significant problems with it. Actually X1 as a first release was far and away the best first release CW ever put out.

8 had problems and so did 8.5. I remember with the release of 8 that many had a lot of crashes.

Each update to X1 has not just fixed bugs but added features. The quick fixes were started to speed bug fixes in a more timely fashion. That may lead some to believe that X1 has far more bugs than previous versions. It did have its fair share but not to any amount greater than the others.

One strong reason I was so adamant in defending X1 when some posted negative things about it was to prevent this type of post. You got a false impression about X1 because some dissatisfied posters posted in some cases opinion without ever having used the program. They were opposed to the new GUI. They put it in such a way that it seem as if it was buggy.

Sonar X1 Producer Expanded with update D is a great Sonar and far better than any previous version. It has always been stable on my system. Not just this latest version but all the versions of X1.

Often problems posted here with X1 are due to user error or simply never reading the manual. Others have flaky gear. Yes there have been bugs and there still are some. But CW has been on top of them from the very start.

You can be sure that X1 will work for you and you will be amazed at just how good it is. You may kick yourself for waiting so long to get it.

Interesting - apparently the OP took that song to heart :)

On a serious note - I am still using 8.5.3 and do not have any bugs that affect the work.  As soon as I am done with a long ensuing project, it is time for X2.
