Goodbye, Forum, I'm leaving too.

I'm giving up music and starting a labradoodle breeding farm, as there appears to be quite a market for them.

And I think I know where to find a decent poodle grooming service..

I may be mistaken but I think someone from Cakewalk said X1 had been the most successful SOnar ever. Could you find the thread Mr Helpful- I can't be arsed.

My apologies, I got the quote slightly wrong:

John

I have used X1 from its release. I have not had any significant problems with it. Actually X1 as a first release was far and away the best first release CW ever put out.

8 had problems and so did 8.5. I remember with the release of 8 that many had a lot of crashes.

Each update to X1 has not just fixed bugs but added features. The quick fixes were started to speed bug fixes in a more timely fashion. That may lead some to believe that X1 has far more bugs than previous versions. It did have its fair share but not to any amount greater than the others.

One strong reason I was so adamant in defending X1 when some posted negative things about it was to prevent this type of post. You got a false impression about X1 because some dissatisfied posters posted in some cases opinion without ever having used the program. They were opposed to the new GUI. They put it in such a way that it seem as if it was buggy.

Sonar X1 Producer Expanded with update D is a great Sonar and far better than any previous version. It has always been stable on my system. Not just this latest version but all the versions of X1.

Often problems posted here with X1 are due to user error or simply never reading the manual. Others have flaky gear. Yes there have been bugs and there still are some. But CW has been on top of them from the very start.

You can be sure that X1 will work for you and you will be amazed at just how good it is. You may kick yourself for waiting so long to get it.

The whole thread is HERE.

Here I'm trying to have peace here and I think you are trying to stir up trouble. To each their own I guess.

Just so you understand why I said that, that was my experience going back to the Pro Audio days. CW has always had problems with its first releases. I recall in a version of Sonar that it wouldn't install because CW had an installer that was looking for a certain DirectX version which was no longer in Windows. It was a huge problem for many.

If you recall the numerous patches and fixes CW has provided for every version there is no way to say that they were without issue. To me X1 was relatively bug free in comparison. No one has to agree though.

The problem as I saw it was CW put out a new version that was markedly different from all the past versions which caused a lot of angst some of which was due to a very new GUI and user error not to bugs as such. But there were bugs also. This didn't help things for those trying to decide whether to upgrade or not.

But then you should know that.

It wasn't just the change in GUI - but the fact that in 8.5.3 you have a lot of choices in colors and overall look when it is something you may be looking at for hours.  To go from that to something more stagnant is going backwards.

I am not saying this is a reason to give up on Sonar, but the Cakewalk folks need to know that some people care about this feature.

My guess, is that there's some shifting around of employees and so in the software development department. I say this because some of the bug's I've noticed in X2 do not exist in X1 - meaning these bugs are regressions.

As for the color change issues - I mentioned somewhere else that the fixed resource bitmap approach is kinda old-school and limits things a bit. Hopefully, the next evolutionary release will consider something more modern and flexible. That and menus and commands being more context sensitive - less monolithic.

..three cents..

X2 is much better than the beta version of it, X1.

Being able to have assignable controls via FX Chains in the Pro-Channel (and actually being able to do something as simple as scroll the contents of the Pro-Channel inspector now) are huge additions from a workflow perspective.

To be able to have whatever main functions you usually employ right there at the track header is a world beater from a workflow perspective.  I could see something in the Pro-Channel concept which has actually started to bear fruit aside from the boutique 'modules' none of which I wanted to occupy such an important and integral part of any of my tracks.

It may just swing me back into the fold on this newest version, I'm just glad I avoided the X1 debacle, it was a painful step which has obviously contributed to the latest version and Sonar's future, but I'm glad I was personally spared the pain of an 18 month beta that I had to pay to be on.

Looks to me like the turkey's been plucked and streamlined to such an extent it might even fly agin...

I've just thought of a new definition of 'fanboy'.  That is anyone that is still prepared to maintain that X1 was anything more than a badly bugged, half-implemented developmental phase that destroyed a lot of goodwill toward Sonar as a viable product among many long-standing dedicated users.

Long live Sonar!  X2 and beyond.

Yes thats a good idea. Digital is dead long live analog!!!! Or not.

Analog is the only way.

Regular maintenance has *always* been a part of studio recording.
Tape head alignment, cleaning, etc...
Trouble-shooting computer issues is the modern day equivalent.

Editing on analog tape?
Nobody I know (including many clients) would ever want to go back to full analog recording/editing/mixing.

I say take some time off... recharge your batteries... and start with calm level-headed trouble-shooting toward whatever issue/s you're experiencing.
Many folks are using X2 successfully.  Note I'm not saying there aren't *some* issues/bugs... but if you can't do basic recording/mixing at low latency, there's more to the problem than Sonar.

If jsg really is leaving ...GOOD. He's a hateful snob who must have had classical whining training to go with his mnusical training with a minor in condescending studies. I wish him well but his attitude will not be missed in the slightest.
