  • TTS1 no playback? (p.2)

Tts-1 only works when your project is set to 44.1. If your project settings are higher, you have to go in to tts-1's options and select 'Light Load'. This has to be set each time you open the project, or freeze. Its a bug, but i doubt it will ever be addressed. Hope this helps.

yep outputs to tts-1 (Inspector view)and driver settings to 44.1- but no playback sound.
Here's my setup
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/24683934/tts1.jpg
Note there is no option to output to tts1 in the track header list.
Only in the Inspector view.
The meter jumps when a midi note is passed but no sound.
If I play a key on the controller a note is played.

When I first plugged in my Alesis to the USB port, it just said "found the device" but I never had to install any driver. Could that be part of this or would that be normal?

Is there a preferable soft synth to TTS-1 for horns and keys that is included in X1 producer Expanded? I hear several say they don't use it.

Yes bub is correct about the Bugs in TTS-1
I spent a lot of time and effort formulating a work around for this issue back in Oct 2010
http://forum.cakewalk.com...2303&high=mysonar8

also I reported it… Strange but nothing was done to fix this BUG!

Yep, Dimension Pro has IMO excellent brass sections, but be warned it can be a rough journey to make it stable.
A quick forum search will confirm this buggieness going back to 8.5 maybe further. And the efforts people had to go to, to install it properly.
Best I just leave it at that.

If TTS-1 is working when you play it, it has nothing to do with setting your project to 44.1  Just out of interest, is your project set to 44.1?

I have never found Dim Pro unstable, and use it all the time.  I'm not saying that some people don't have issues, but the majority are fine.

I'm still thinking about what may be causing your problems, and will post back later.

Yes the project is at 44.1 and thanks for persisting here.
Remember I'm such a nube to MIDI and soft synths that it could be something very obvious.

Your comment about outputs to be to TTS-1 is confusing and may be a clue because that is not a drop-down option here. So I set it to master.

Another odd thing is, altho there is no sound, sometimes the meter works and sometimes it doesn't.

If you look at the inspector (usually docked on left - press "I" if it's not there), there ar two Tabs - "MIDI" and "Audio" at the bottom.

If you click the audio Tab, at the bottom left it should display the track number, and above that the Output, which should be set to "Master".  I leave Input as "AllInputsOmni".

You set the Input and output by left clicking and choosing the appropriate option from the drop down menu.

If you click the "MIDI" Tab, the Output should be set to 'a number' & "Cakewalk TTS-1".

Did you try re-inserting TTS-1 and shift-dragging your MIDI onto new track?  I know people have reported some odd behavior from simple instrument tracks before, so it's worth a try.

Yes in the Inspector,in the Audio tab, the Input has always been AllinptOmni.
and the Output was always master.
And Yes, with the MIDI tab, the In is Allinput and the Out is 2CkwlkTTS1

Sigh. it seems everything is right except the playback of the midi channel.

I tried the copy track to no avail.
I erased everything MIDI and started over but with the exact same results.
I guess I'll try another synth. I've looked at a few but see no brass or other "real" sounds, only loads of very strange sounds.

Any suggestions on a synth with a set of "real" sounds?

If you are using instruments tracks don't. Simply use the browser to create a soft synth folder and have the synth on its own track. You can have the  MIDI track made by this process but its not necessary. If you have a track for MIDI record some data into it or use MIDI loops. Be sure that that MIDI track outs to the TTS-1 synth but also be sure to set the channel to 1 on that track. In TTS-1 select a patch for the first channel.  Now try to play back and see what happens.

The MIDI track should show MIDI activity in the MIDI meters and the audio trackfrom the TTS-1 should show audio happening on its meters. You should hear something if you have that audio track routed to your sound card or master buss.

If you have questions please ask.

a few suggestions to help isolate the problem:

1. Right-click the Simple Instrument track, and choose Split Instrument Track so you can see MIDI and Audio meters and other parameters easily (in lieus of switching between MIDI and Audio tabs at the bottom of the Inspector view)

2. Click one of the Preview buttons (musical note icon) at the bottom  of a channel in the TTS-1 GUI to see if you're getting audio output.

3. Make sure you have the "Prepare Using" buffer set to 500ms  under Preferences > MIDI > Playback and Recording. The default of 250 is too low for some systems, and can result in dropped MIDI notes or even completely silent tracks on playback while live MIDI input echo works fine.

Ok, Thanks for keeping at this guys. I think you got it.
Starting clean.
Set Buffers to 500 (It was 50 in attempts to reduce latency.)
I suspect this is the root cause because I was successful in the end.
Here's my process just in case I missed something.
1. Erased all midi tracks and synths.
2. Browser, Insert Synth, Cakewalk TTS1, enter
3. Options popup, Simple Instrument track, Synth property Page and Recall Assignable Controls are enabled, enter as ok
4. TTS1 pops up and a track with a keyboard icon is installed
      4a-The track header has I=Omni, O= Master, C=none, B=Bank with no selections, P= none.
      4b-The Inspector-
Midi tab has I=Omni (changed to Allinputs Omni)  & O=2CkwlkTTS1-1
Audio tab has I = Allinputs omni and O= Master.
5. Play the keyboard using the default piano and it plays.
6. switch windows to here to write this
7. switch back to sonar and it no longer plays thru keyboard.WTF???
8. play the song, and the keyboard now works again. whew.
9. click TTS1 CH1 sound and change to Alto Sax., It plays the sax. yay.
10. set track to record, hit record and it does leave the little MIDI deer droppings indicating it recorded midi.
11. playback and it PLAYS!!
12. do a second track and it plays too.
I'm off to the races.
Thanks so much guys. It was all about which one of the gazillion settings needed tweaking. Simple. Lol
