Anyone has an opinion on this video? Should I download?

He has done a lot of free X1 videos in youtube prior to doing in commercially. This is his link http://www.youtube.com/user/MCIHomeStudio?feature=g-all-u.

I purchased this morning, more out of interest. Cant say I learnt a great deal, IMO its really more suited for beginners I think. He does them really well though and any mixing/mastering tutorials that are done in Sonar are always interesting to watch no matter what skill level. I would buy more from him, maybe a bit more in depth though, for me personally anyway :-)

As a side note I also bought the Rapture tutorial currently on offer at £3.99 (at the time of this post) its only about 54 mins, but learnt quite a bit that I didn't know. Been using Rapture for a few years pretty much out the box and I didn't realise you could load your own samples in it!

Yup I have a particularly strong opinion, so much so I felt compelled to write down what I thought.... I posted in the software forum instead, here is the link....

I should add I don't normally get this opinionated and it's the first time I've really complained about anything released under the cake banner.

See, now I see it the other way. I don't think this is suitable for beginners . He fires so many numbers at you without explaining why!!! A begginer wouldn't understand why, he chose those figures, it was just a list

Set attack to 1
Set release to 50ms Etc.....

NO explanations as to why those figures were chosen. Now the experts might understand why, but I sure as heck didn't!

I thought every chapter was rushed.

For me there wasn't enough detail. Hey, but thats just me. Not the best money I've ever spent.

Re: Mix Video:
I recognised his voice from his free videos on Youtube. They are terrible. He doesn't seem to know what he's talking about. He thought that the best thing about the PC2A was how it looked. I'm so glad I did recognise him, or I might hace bought it.

I am horrified that Cake would sell a video by him. Surely they watched his other ones. MCIHomeStudio, i think they're called.

It does not reflect well on cake.
Re: Karls X2 Video:

I would recomend his videos to anyone.  One of the Sonar experts.

Thats very unfair comment. Karl over the years has given us loads of free videos. What have you ever done for this forum only moan. If you know so much then do us a video and show us.
The videos are great and I am always learning new things in sonar or easier ways to do things. The video is very reasonable priced and well worth it money.

Re: Sonar Mix Video:

Sorry if I seem a bit cruel. His free videos are okay for free videos, perhaps they have helped some beginners.  You get the impression he has read some stuff on the internet about recording, but does not truely understand it.

So, as free videos, it is good he took the time to do them.  But for Cake to sell them horrifies me.  From what the OP says they are not much use to beginners (surely his target audience) as he throws out numbers without explaining them.  I'm suggesting he doesn't explain them because he doesn't know.

So who are they for?
I highly recomend Karl's X2 Videos.  And his free X1 videos on youtube.

Woa... woa... rewind... uncross the crossed wires.....

I think JB101 is referring to the author of SWA Mix Clinic which isn't me.

Just wanted to clear that little misunderstanding up.
