Hi there,
If you were look at the date at which I did that tutorial you would notice it was quite a while ago, I have admitted before that there are earlier videos of mine on my YouTube page where I lacked the ability to explain exactly what I meant, my knowledge of correct terminology was certainly not what it is today, and if I were to re-make that tutorial it would certainly be made a lot differently. So I don't think you can compare what I did back then to what I do now. Also when I started out doing my YouTube channel, it was only for my own enjoyment, and there for something that I did off my own back, since then I would like to think I have improved as does anyone who continues to delve into the same subject for a long enough period. I keep the video up because some people starting out liked the simple approach and find elements within the tutorial useful, each to their own, if I manage to help only 1 person get into this and spark an interest then I feel I have done a good service.
Cheers

I've just seen part of a Mastering Tutorial by MCI Home Studio (Pipin Henderson, the same chap who authored the SWA Mix Clinic Video).
Near the beginning he says that there is no easy way to describe what a compressor does, then states:-
"It boosts the low frequencies up to the kind of midrange, and it squashes the higher frequencies down to the midrange and kind of brings everything together."
Hmmm..
