Cj, with all due respect, I think you missed the important sentence in the opening post:

As I pointed out in my post #17 Both of the OPs monitors go silent equally much when he pans either to left or right. That means he's got sound coming from both.
That simply doesn't fit the one-sided-stereo-recording scenario.

Let's hope the OP sticks with us on this...

Kalle, "with all due respect"Depending on how its routed, how the interleave is set and what effects are on the track, this can happen when you select the a stereo input for a mono track

More info.

I found that my tracks are “one lane” mono. (Not like the pic Dave has in post #25 – thanks Dave!)

I did find that the interleave button was in stereo on the Master bus or track (whatever you call it). Could the problem be that I simply need to change that button to mono?

Now I have a new problem (this isn’t my week!). I work in the “Console” view, and I somehow lost my whole tool bar at the top of the screen that has the Play button and all that stuff, so I can’t even try any panning ideas. I didn’t change anything! I went into other song files and they are all that way. How could that happen to separate files? I got completely out of everything, shutting everything down, and then restarted. That bar is gone in all my files I looked at.

Ok. so press "C" for Control Bar or go to the View Menu and pick what you want to see. No offense, but its time you read through the Help menus (there's 30 chapters on how to use the program), take the tutorials, read the manual and download and watch the videos on Cakewalk University. We're not here to hold your hand and walk you through using the program. (We don't get paid for this.) We'll help you with specific problems though.

If you think my questions are a waste of your time (“We don’ get paid for this”) because I have not done my “homework” to your satisfaction, feel free to ignore them! Your condescending lecture is not appreciated, and your assumptions are not accurate.

I very much appreciate anyone taking the time to respond.

Dude... he's right. Stop what you are currently doing and go through the tutorials in the manual step by step. Things will be much clearer then. Also daveny is extremely helpful and knows what's up. You WANT a guy like that to be on your side. Good luck.

I thought the forum took precedence over the manual? Right?

@timidi... Heh, the fact that I learned by incessantly harassing the forum should make it pretty clear that is totally the wrong way to do it. ;-)

This gave me an idea. Maybe when I set up in my new studio I'll give myself a refresher course and do one of my real time Complete Beginner threads as I go. Might help some of the new guys. I was going to do it when I first bought Sonar but I realized it would have been a complete mess.

If I can, I'll gladly help anyone through any process or technique. Step by step. With screenshots and diagrams if need be. Please don't tar me and countless others with your own brush.

Anyway, it's nice to see you've cheered up a bit since the last time our paths crossed Dave.

And nice to see that your advice has evolved as far as "RTFM" from your previous position of implying that anybody not possessing the basic skills to run the software was obviously using a pirated copy.

Toodle-pip.
