If you have a built in soundcard eg Soundblaster as well as an external soundcard ( in my case an octa capture ) I find Sonar crashes continuously unless you disable the internal sound card. Might be obvious to some but hope this helps some newbies out there

I have an internal sound card that I use for youtube, computer sounds etc., and an external one for audio.

All works fine.

This is exactly how my pc's are set up. Sonar doesn't crash

I'm having no problems with my card both playing Sonar and OS sounds like music players, youtube etc.. Might as well disable the internal garbage.

Someone posted a thread on here that they couldn't watch a tutorial video and have Sonar open at the same time to follow the lesson.  Not a problem here.  Just one simple example.

Don't see need to disable as it works fine.

It's just my philosophy, if it's not needed remove it if possible, or disable it.

If you have a decently good external card it should be able to handle both Sonar and your OS at the same time or something is wrong.

The more hardware you have going on with a DAW system (internal soundcard, network cards, gaming gfx cards etc..), the more chances of strange dropouts and glitches due to deferred procedure calls.

Sorry if I sounded harsh m8, it's just the way Danes talk, sometimes it doesn't go over well on forums

Didn't think you seemed harsh at all.

My philosophy is if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

No strange drop outs or glitches here, internal and external cards working fine together, why bother removing internal card?

Don't mean to sound harsh, but telling someone to change a perfectly stable system that works is a little odd, to say the least.

Sorry it hasn't worked with your "internal garbage" card, perhaps you've had incompatability issues in the past.  Here, and with other people (see Bristol Jonesey's post above) it works fine.

My internal soundcard is a Soundblaster Xtreme Audio with additional 1Gb ram. Maybe its my particular card in combination with Octa-Capture that mucks up Sonar. When I disable internal card Sonar works like dream. I seem to recall reading Scott Garrigus advice that it is better to disable internal card rather than run two cards.

I am well aware of  there being incompatability issues with some cards/interfaces, and if someone is experiencing issues, I might suggest that they try disabling the internal card as a first solution.

I just didn't see the point of telling someone who has not experienced any problems whatsoever to disable their internal card.  That just seems a bit daft..

Also, I was quoting Kenneth when I said "internal garbage", not giving my own opinion.  Mine is fine.
