I don't trust those SSDs quite yet. The drives they use at ADK, although still mechanical, are super fast. I got a couple Caviar Blacks and they lag a tiny bit but not worth the cost and worry of an SSD IMO. I think they are something like 3 times the cost per GB. Yowsers!

My only problem with SSDs is they are not as yet cost effective. They should be dirt cheap but they aren't.  Also they are still rather small.

I'm kind of curious why they can't make them with larger capacity. Too lazy to google it though.

The only thing I would change with that rig is swap the Seagate drives with Western Digital drives.  I work in IT and have seen a truck-load of 1 to 3 TB Seagate drives die in the last 18 months.

SSDs work great for streaming sample libraries.

ADK rocks! The new box I just got from them is awesome.

Looks like a great system John - quite similar to mine (I paid £2k (that's GBP) back in March and I'm blown away by how effortlessly it does the most complex of tasks)

Nice system! I'm curious about the motherboard. What brand/model is it? You can use a program called CPUz to get the mainboard information.

+1 on SSD. They have been on the market long enough now to warrant a trusty investment. Yes, they are a little pricier per GB, but so was every HDD this time last year with all the flooding. Plus 500GB for an OS drive is unnecessary - 128, or 256 would suffice. If its not too late, I would make the switch for sure.
