1.  Are all the color customization options restored as in pre-X1 versions?
 
2.  Does the staff view track pane allow for changing the active MIDI track, as in pre-X1 versions?

No on the first one, but I'm not sure about the second; I don't see that the functionality of the track pane in the staff view in X1 or X2 differs from 8.5.

The active track events do not become highlighted in the staff view the way they do in the PRV in any of these releases. Is that what you're referring to?

Yes, I think that is the issue,  I don't think x2 nor x1 allows the musician to change active tracks in the staff view as in all previous versions.   Just as I expected.
