Hi

Ever since I have had Win 7 I have not put any updates in as my computer is offline and so It should be ,No gremlins
Just occasionally I get a blue screen ,but after a restart It runs ok again

Is there any must updates for Win 7 that Is critical for music .
I know most updates are generally for the Internet.
Also anyone out there getting a good experiance with win 8 64 or Is It too early.

Plenty of threads already in the forums about Win8. I suggest you attempt to sort out your blue screen problem, can't be doing your hard drive integrity much good.. Run scandisk on your harddrive and make sure your drivers are up to date. After that next time (if) you get a bluescreen consult the event viewer and get the error messages. Cheers...

I have done a check disc and nothing Is wrong.
I will network my music computer wth my edimax usb sender and get the drivers checked out.
Now I am wondering if I let windows update everything ,,I hope I will not lose any of my settings .
There are some 64bit updates ,but I do not know whether Windows updates are beneficial or not. They are mostly for Internet users.

I don't think I ever saw a blue screen in Windows 7 although it went white a few times.

IMHO, you would be safer getting the regular updates and using a good anti-virus program like MS Security Essentials, but that's entirely up to you.

a bsod is generally a hardware or driver issue..  if hardware #1 is HDD and #2 is RAM so a +1 to chkdsk, and also research RAM memory testing.. the standard memtest at boot is inadequate and i have had dead memory on two separate computers..

after that, its time to rejoin the world and update bios, all drivers and win 7.. then by all means disconnect again.

Hi Alex and Dave and Mystic
Done all of the stability optionals.
I think the graphics card also was an Important one.

What happened In the beginnning when I  purchased the computer I7,  was that a blue screen kept appearing regularly and sent machine back and I think that was something to do with memory.
That was a while ago.
I put Sonar down for a while and decided to get my playing dexterity up to scratch and work with Sonar after that.
So I do not have to cut and paste too much.
This blue sreen only happened once and now have updated everything through my to my online computer to Edimax usb on music machine.
HERE'S HOPING!!!

All the best
JOHN

I wouldn't worry about just running Windows Update and letting it do it's thing. You're not going to pick up any viruses or gremlins like that. I think this whole idea of keeping your DAW disconnected from the internet at all times is somewhat overrated. It's fine as long as you're careful and you don't start downloading a bunch of random crap from disreputable sources.

Ahh, you haven't been bitten yet then ... Lucky DAWg!

For me I let let it upgrade XP SP2 to SP3 and all hell broke loose. Nothing worked. I uninstalled SP3 and rolled back to SP2 and life was good ...
