[Updated mix to fix tinniness]

Here's a new one that I wrote entirely as a piano piece and then decided to dress it up as an orchestral piece. During all of this, my wife insisted that I not f*** it up and NO DRUMS, lol. She's such a kidder.

Dan, this is a very nicely developed orchestral piece that kept my attention from beginning to end.  I like the arrangement and the samples that you used.  It's very cinematic and deserving of a nice film or video.  The only thing that stood out to me was that the mix sounded "trebly" or quite bright, i.e.  lacking a little warmth.  Otherwise, this is a winner.

Hmm, I had a warmer mix, but it sounded too dark to me. I'll have to listen closer to see where I can tweak the mix. Might just need to turn down the Aphex on the main piano a bit.

Nice Dan, I enjoyed the break/evolutions @ 1:50 and I think 3:26? I would have liked to have seen it really crescendo somewhere, but you seemed to have a nice use of winds and strings and percussion as it is. I felt like the end was unresolved, but I know that's what you were going for. The hot angel in the pic gave me an "uplifted" feeling...

Ditto what Lynn said with the trebly sound.

Thanks Robby! I can always count on you to take a thread down a "different" path, lol!

Seems we have a consensus...I'll revisit the mix this weekend and put up a new version when I'm done. Thanks for the listen!

The piano is a little thin with a bit of a "scooped" tone, but aside from that I liked this tune a lot.  The melodies and orchestration are really good.  It sounds complete.

And yes... the angel is kinda hot.   I mean cool.   Well, you know...

Well, I've been looking over the mix and learned something about the Waves SSL that I didn't really understand until now. I've been so used to reaching for the "G" strip (for guitars and drums) that I didn't even think about which would be more appropriate for strings and piano. The "E" is a much more natural sounding EQ in this use case. After swapping these and dialing in the EQ, it is already sounding much better. I got lulled into hearing what I thought I was hearing, if you know what I mean. That, and I failed to test the mix on another system that I usually use to final check a mix. Stupid...and lesson learned.

Really nice piece. In my ears the piano has a bit too much bite to it. but still a lovely track. :)
