First I just tried to update Absynth and I got an error telling me "host not found". So I changed the path to C:\Program Files\Native Instruments
I think that was a mistake because the Absynth update put all the libraries on the C drive instead of E the Samples drive. I deleted them. Now I can't find it to re-download... BUT I also Massive downloaded and installed the Massive update, it installed the libraries in C:\Users\My Name\Documents\Native Instruments\Massive\Sounds
I downloaded a couple of other small things and they seemed to go to the Samples drive where they belong.
I am not sure what to do. I guess I can completely uninstall Absynth and Massive and use the HDD to reinstall them, then try to update them correctly.
I set up the initial pathways for samples to go the E drive and all went well. I think I went wrong when I changed the pathway, when I got the host not found message. Now I don't know what to set it to.

NI's Knowledge Base is no help at all.

Any help?

Frustrated in GA.

OK, I am re-installing everything from the HDD. Then am going to delete Service Center and download it again. I tried to go to My Account but individual updates are not there, only the option to download Komplete U installer. I think this will work. It said I have newer versions of Absynth and Massive and it removed them from the tree, I added them back. I bet I should have chosen "everything" though, oh well I can go back and get the media if it isn't there.
Stuff like this is ALWAYS a PITA for me. I should have known something was wrong when the initial install went so well... the updates bit me in the arse. Maybe not this time...

I'd still be very happy for any advice on doing the updates. It will be an hour or two before I get there again. If I have the same problem of "host not found" I will come back and post what I am seeing and maybe someone will know what to do, (I'm looking at you Larry... LOL) really anyone who knows.
When I search online all I find is how bad NI support is and others who can't seem to figure it out. My daughter lives in Germany, I'll get her on it if I have to.

Hi JBow,

If you do the initial install of K10 Ultimate (choosing the desired location for the sample libraries - on your "Samples" drive/s), when you go to install the updates from Service Center... the paths should already be set (don't want to change them).

If Windows Firewall is enabled, that may be blocking NI Service Center.
You can temporarily disable Windows Firewall... then run NI Service Center.
In Win10, if you disable Windows Firewall permanently... some Win updates won't download/install properly (you'll receive error messages).

Thanks Jim. It is still set up with 8.1 the way I got it from you. Service Center runs but I did delete and re-install it so I'll hopefully have the correct path again when I update.
I noticed a whoe bunch of generic looking NI icons on my desktop but I had not taken time to look at them, I did once I started to re-install K10u from the HDD. They were all folders that had lists of incomplete installs from yesterday. I bet that was some of my problem. So far no new ones have popped up. I set the VSTs and Standalones to go on the C drive and set the Samples to go on the E drive when the splash screens asked. I looked for anything about AAX (?) I think that is right, the PT stuff because it was installing al of that too but this time I didn't see anything about it so maybe it will install right this time. Perhaps that was the whole problem, the initial install was incomplete. I'll let you know how it goes after while.
I'll clone soon and move to W-10. I got Acronis 2016, an Orinco USB3 dock, and a Toshiba 3TB drive so I'm set to backup and to clone. I just need to do it. If I get this running right I will do it before I mess anything up, lol.
I will temp disable W firewall before trying to update this time.
Thanks,
J

Everything is reinstalled from the HDD with no "incomplete" folders on the desktop, everything authorized. The pathway is set (I didn't change it this time) to C:\Program Files\Native Instruments

Could someone check and see what your DL pathway is in Service Center if you use separate drives for Apps and Samples. I have something to do for about 30 minutes and will do that before I begin the updates. I am not sure it is correct, thanks!

The Service center places all of its downloads in folders on the desktop.
These folders are automatically deleted by the installer after it installs the updates.

OK, but they weren't updates. It was from the initial install from the HDD. I didn't try any updates until today. Anyway, I reinstalled from the HDD again and they didn't come back. I am trying the updates again using advice from Bassdaddy and Larry in the thread I searched and found. Downoading to Downloads, installing from there as admin. I think it will work. The samples went to my sample drive in the install so it should work. Perhaps NI needs to hire a good programmer.
Thank you for the answer!!

JBow you are correct. The HD install also unpacks the files to temporary folders on the desktop then deletes these folders as the product is installed. You probably had the left-over folders because you stopped the install before it was complete or changed something before it was complete.

I think I got through it. I downloaded to Downloads, extracted there, then ran as Admin. Only Absynth and Reaktor 5 had no option to load the samples to drive E, I double checked and checked again. Maybe I can move them but I don't know how. I'll ask Ed, he knows everything! I also wish there was an option to not install the AVID files, I guess I can remove them manually.
So far so good... I think.

One question and I'm pretty sure I can do this.. can I delete the .zip files and the .exe files in the Downloads\NI folder now that everything is installed? Since I didn't install using the Service center it is all still there. It isn't taking up that much space, under 10gb but I'd like to remove it if I can, if things will still work.

Thanks. Sorry, my hair was on fire earlier. Thankfully it is going to rain tomorrow and I have more Atomic Fireballs. I'll be OK!

Thanks again.
