I noticed a whoe bunch of generic looking NI icons on my desktop but I had not taken time to look at them, I did once I started to re-install K10u from the HDD. They were all folders that had lists of incomplete installs from yesterday. 

The Service center places all of its downloads in folders on the desktop.
These folders are automatically deleted by the installer after it installs the updates. 

OK, but they weren't updates. It was from the initial install from the HDD. I didn't try any updates until today. Anyway, I reinstalled from the HDD again and they didn't come back. I am trying the updates again using advice from Bassdaddy and Larry in the thread I searched and found. Downoading to Downloads, installing from there as admin. I think it will work. The samples went to my sample drive in the install so it should work. Perhaps NI needs to hire a good programmer.

JBow you are correct. The HD install also unpacks the files to temporary folders on the desktop then deletes these folders as the product is installed. You probably had the left-over folders because you stopped the install before it was complete or changed something before it was complete.

No, I didn't do anything.. something just went wrong. I have no idea what but it worked today and took about an hour, the update DL and install took all day... but that's OK. I just wish Absynth and Reaktor 5 Samples were on E but there was no option to do that. I guess it isn't a biggie and I could probably move them if I wuz smart.

Yesterday there was a big windows 10 update. It rebooted my computer while I was working on a mix.
There was no warning from windows about the reboot.
Maybe this happened to you when you were installing K10U?

In the future just install Kontakt based samples to another drive. The synths have patches so they take up little space and will reside in your documents folder.

Don't know if it's been mentioned yet... but if you use Service Center to install each update (click on the Install button on the right side), all downloaded files will be automatically unzipped... and deleted when finished.

I wanted to but it gave me no option to do that. I'll figure it out, I've too much going on right now. Seems like the older I get the more I have to do, the less energy I have, and certainly less time.
I thought I had done it all wrong again when I tried checking Absynth out on Sonar but I drag/dropped it from Effects (I think... any, not from instruments in the browser and there was nothing). I thought well... [link=mailto:!@#$%]!@#$%[/link]. Then I realized my mistake and loaded from "instruments", it is still going to take some time. I didn't spend a lot of time because it took all day for the updates and I was gone all day today but I anaged to get "one shots'. I am guessing that in thr Abbey Road kits there are grooves but I haven't found them yet, or at least not how to use them.
 
Still... can I delete the .zip and .exe files in downloads. I didn't use SC because too many people seemed to have problems with it but next update I'll use it both the DL and install.

 can I delete the .zip files and the .exe files in the Downloads\NI folder now that everything is installed? Since I didn't install using the Service center it is all still there. It isn't taking up that much space, under 10gb but I'd like to remove it if I can, if things will still work.
 

Yes you can with the caveat if you ever do a full (fresh) system reinstall you will ultimately have to download them again.
