If my name was Dweezil, I would stop playing his dad's material ... altogether, even in concert ... and say at the end of the show that because of legalese stupidity, he would rather not support an enterprise that does not give a damn about the family and is hurting the music itself by locking it up ... and play only his own work.
 
Besides, it's time for him to create his own ..."The Rat Symphony with the Hot Tea" for his own audience, and tell the rest of the so-called "trust" to take a big hike. After 6 months, when the sales drop like bricks, those folks will stop their stupidity, but it might be too late to save anything. 
 
Even more stupid is the judge, that needs his head examined. I would have told the folks to go home and I want to see you both here tomorrow without lawyers, in my chambers, and I'm bringing the whips and the chains and the enemas!
 
The whole thing is just sick, and even sicker than a song or two ... I can handle those ... but this is just plain right stupid and bad publicity and Dweezil needs to stick it to his other folks that have no respect or understanding for the music itself. Dweezil, at least, is out on the road trying to sell the material in the vaults ... and those other folks are ... sitting at home collecting and counting the money! 
 
Just sick ... of the sick ... and Frank's fault and Gail's silliness, for not ensuring that this could not happen, and having a better idea of the estimation of the huge compositional work they had at hand.
 
So typical, in a country where commercial interests are more important than the work/music itself ... just makes me puke ... and I'm not buying anything Zappa until they come to their knees and apologize and grow up! I will probably be done and dead before that happens, but screw them! 
 
I just absolutely despite this kind of respect for an artist ... and Frank has had enough abuse ... even in the grave! And now they are trying to turn Gail over.

Saying the right thing isn't easy sometimes, unless some folks have nothing to say other than add a word-less post! Sorry. And yes, I generally re-read what I write, to ensure I said it as best as I know how. Sorry that these updates bother you! 

This is Gail's legacy. "Controlling people" always create divides between other people, between those who are submissive and those who aern't. I've seen it before but it took me a lot of years before I saw it for what it is. Power and/or money are at the root of most, if not ALL evil.

Sorry, felt the need to modify your statement.  There's nothing wrong with money, quite the opposite!  It's the blood of an economy and, like blood, it doesn't work if it accumulates all in one place and doesn't circulate.
 
This is also one of the most misquoted verses in the Bible (from 1 Timothy).

Frank should have sorted all that out before he died. He had time to do so but for what ever reason he did not.
 
Dweezil needs to start writing and performing his own music.
 
I agree it is dumb though how it has turned out. Frank's music was amazing and Dweezil should have the option to perform it without any issues what so ever.

Didn't he release a solo album just last year?  
 
I'm guessing that his fanbase is primarily interested in Frank's catalogue. Maybe because they can only stomach so much "odd music" and prefer when it's certified "classic". So the focus is on Zappa Plays Zappa.

Damn, that has to be a new world record in pettiness.  Even before, when his own mother charged Dweez 'an exorbitant fee' to use 'Zappa plays Zappa'.  F* me, you'd think she'd be proud.

The same thing has happened in my family, and mom, pretty much did her own thing, and while I am not exactly in favor of it, the hard/harsh part is that none (that's right NONE) of the 9 children have any say on anything, and the whole library gets sent to Lisbon and it will likely remain in crates for the next 200 years or so. and probably busted by an over eager ocean that invaded the basement of the cathedral or building that it is at.
 
The worst part is the publishing, since mom did not think, EVER, that the children were anything but ... just children ... that would not know or understand "literature", because they were not professors with 2.1 kids and a car and some kind of "tenure" to prove that they have arrived at the academic club that knows and decides that you and I are peons, and not worthy of attention or opinion.
 
Gail made the same mistake. My mom made sure that if the 9 kids could not agree -- and we never have -- on something, that it could not be done. Guess what ... same thing at Zappa ... one is a struggling musician and the rest are just hang'ers on, and collecting the free money! And in this case, the hang'ers on are winning, since Dweezil's is more interested in playing than worrying about anything else.
 
For this reason, I think that Dweezil needs to life the proverbial MAD finger in the next album and say, that his music is now number one, and that the ZFT is no longer going to gain a single cent from his own work and such. At that point, the ZFT's ability to keep the music moving forward, will fail ... and lose a lot since they are not folks that know "public" and "people" and they are only interested in alienating those not "behind them".
 
It's their choice ... it's their trust. In my book they do not see the forest for the trees or how many trees even makes a forest! Likewise, we have dumb issues ... my mom trusted someone to publish this and that, and a year later when the book came out ... you should have seen the list of dirty laundry ... and some of my sisters were not happy, and I would have filed a lawsuit to re-establish the trust and nail that book to the bathroom TP rack!
 
As I said, one of the saddest things is ... every house and every country has a GOD and the children don't mean poop ... and sometimes, even writing it here, is sad ... there will be another post that ignores it and spreads even more poop on it. Sympathy not necessary, but a little respect would be nice, and there is none more often than not! Even for what is personal and has nothing to do with the intellect of the .... whatever!
